Partner Updates | Fall 2021

The Partnership continues to meet regularly and is working together to identify additional alternatives to the Forest Plan Amendment for U.S. Forest Service consideration. In addition, all Partners have signed a Cooperative Agency Agreement which allows a greater flow of data and information to and from all agencies.

Forest Service (Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests)

Devil’s Nose Designated Shooting Area Implementation
The Devil’s Nose Designated Shooting Area range will be located along CO Highway 103 near Idaho Springs. Thanks to partnership work with Clear Creek County, some access road construction has taken place. The range area is closed until construction is complete. Design work for the range is completed and the Forest Service anticipates construction to begin in 2022. View information on the range.

Boulder County
In December 2020, the County Commissioners approved the Boulder Rifle Club’s land use application (phase 1 only) to construct a public range that would include 25, 50 and 100 meter ranges. The Boulder Rifle Club has been awarded over $900,000 from Colorado Parks and Wildlife for range construction. The estimated cost to build the public range is $5 million. The County Commissioners are exploring other funding sources.

Clear Creek County
In May 2021, Colorado Parks & Wildlife awarded Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties an $860,000 grant toward their regional Shooting Sports Park Project (Phase II). Including the $540,000 in matching funds, this will provide approximately 50% of the estimated $2.8 million total cost of the project. The new range improvements will include a clubhouse and improved range safety features for public operations. The County plans to publish a Request for Qualifications in December to locate an operator/concessionaire to manage the new range.  

Gilpin County
Gilpin County is coordinating with Clear Creek County on their Clear Creek Shooting Sports Park. On January 5, 2021, the Gilpin County BOCC committed $400,000 towards the project’s construction and requested that the new BOCC consider committing an additional $100,000 towards construction. The number of lanes at the Clear Creek range will allow for the closure of the identified areas in Gilpin County.

Larimer County
Larimer County is forming a committee to explore possible range sites.
