WoodTECH Issue 42 - Latest news and resources

Welcome to the latest issue of WoodTECH.News.

We start this month with new research on how the millennial generation (the largest generation now in our workforce) views the timber industry. The US-based study highlights a generally negative perception of the industry which is significantly impacting on how we’re able to attract new skills into our operations. The key takeaway here is the industry needs to better communicate with millennials, push the value of new technologies that are now being employed and build on the positive environmental benefits.

In other news, there has been a lot of developments in the bioenergy/biofuels space. We have an AU$30 million deal to produce hydrogen from waste timber in Victoria's Port Anthony and another AU$5 million deal that’s been announced in NSW to convert packaging waste into high-performance building materials. There’s is also a new study from the University of Canterbury on breaking down wood waste into hydrogen and carbon dioxide gas and a report showing wood pellet demand is projected to skyrocket in the coming years.

And finally, USNR and the Wood Fiber Group have just announced they’re merging. This brings together several major brands in wood processing equipment, technology and tooling under one global supplier.

Check out these stories and much more below. Enjoy this month's issue.
