National Safeguarding Adults Week 15-21 November 2021
National Safeguarding Adults Week is aimed at raising awareness, and refreshing your knowledge, of safeguarding of adults at risk of harm. The Ann Craft Trust offers some useful resources and training to support you with this.
Safeguarding - Ask the Expert
KVA's Safeguarding lead is Karen Penny, our Children & Young People Project Officer. Karen can provide support and advice about safeguarding issues, covering general enquiries, training, policy and procedures, and trustee obligations.
Safeguarding Children & Young People is Everyone’s Responsibility
Safeguarding children and young people is everyone’s responsibility. Groups that do not work directly with children can be the eyes and ears that save a child from a difficult or dangerous situation. Knowing what constitutes a problem, and what is OK, is really important to that child’s safety and long term emotional and physical wellbeing.
If you work in an environment where children are likely to be present, please consider attending our training event on 18 November. Details below.
To see our full range of training courses, please visit our Eventbrite page here. If you follow us on Eventbrite, you will receive a notification every time we list a new event, so you won't miss out!
Children Safeguarding - Level 1 (online training)
To access this training, you will need to register for an account with the Kingston & Richmond Safeguarding Children Partnership (KRSCP) here.
Once you have a login, you will then be able to access the training, which takes approximately two hours to complete. Find out more, and register for the course here.
Children & Young People’s Network
Our Children and Young People’s (CYP) Network meets quarterly, and is open to individuals and organisations that specifically work with, or have contact with, children and young people as part of their services. Our aim is to keep members up to date with new information around safeguarding issues, relevant training, and local commissioning opportunities. The network provides an opportunity to share experiences and best practice with other organisations, and we have guest speakers at each meeting.
If you would like to join our CYP Network, please email Karen Penny.
Our next CYP meeting will take place on Thursday 9 December 2021. Details below.
Honour Based Violence & Forced Marriage Awareness
Our next CYP meeting will take place on Zoom on Thursday 9 December 2021 at 10:30.
From 10:30 til 12:00 there will be a presentation by Sarb Athwal, founder of True Honour, and author of 'Shamed', on the topic of Honour Based Violence & Forced Marriage Awareness.
People who wish to stay on afterwards for the 'business' part of the CYP meeting are very welcome to do so.
#AreTheySafe? campaign
Find out more about NAVCA's #AreTheySafe campaign, aimed at removing the stigma of reporting safeguarding concerns, creating a greater understanding of safeguarding, and encouraging people witnessing potential abuse and neglect to speak up and help those in abusive or neglectful situations to receive the support they need.
