Assessment and Measurement in Education

IT 743 - Assessment and Measurement in Education: a graduate class for students interested in assessment and measurement practices used in k-12 and higher education. This course explores how assessments are developed, the contexts in which they are deployed, and the methods by which they are scrutinized. Students will learn best practices about question design, error assessment, parameterization, and test development.
Educational Objectives:
1) Distinguish between historical, as well as current, controversies and problems in educational measurement. Determine the implications for constructing, scoring, and interpreting tests.
2) Evaluate and apply appropriate standards and use of educational and psychological testing related to test construction, fairness in testing, reporting, and use of test scores.
3) Implement statistical procedures that underlie standard practices in test use and construction (including the use of statistical software).
4) Estimate reliability using traditional methods for both classroom and large-scale content assessment.
5) Define and classify procedures used to provide validity evidence for educational and psychological tests.
6) Understand models and associated analytical techniques related to the measurement of constructs.
