Version 8 does not include a new app and a firmware update. Please take care and stay safe.
Version 8 of Bridge+More is ready to be launched.
Dear <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,
Launch of version 8
We have today launched version 8.0 - our reaction to the increased internet instability/access we all experience in especially Europe over the last weeks.
To enjoy all advantages of the new update, please update to tablet app version to 8.00. The update does not include an update of the dealer's firmware (unchanged to version 3.34.11).
This is an update you can postpone.
Improved On/off-line feature
In version 7 we wanted to ensure you could continue to play bridge "whatever happens"- or more technical add On/Off-line features especially issues that could pause or stop games. We grouped the risks for eventual communication issues as follows:
No local internet / unstable local internet
No local Wi-Fi / unstable local Wi-Fi
Handling errors/misuse
Access to server issues - internet provider errors
Server issues
Version 7 worked as planned when communication was stopped - but with unstable communication, it is much more complicated - it's like when 3 lanes on the motorway have to be reduced to one lane due to roadwork. All those drivers swapping lanes ends up making the flow slower for all - it's similar for computers - when the device asking for answers is put on hold or don't get a complete answer, then the device asks again and again - and the flow gets worse and worse.
Therefore, in version 8 we have improved the automatic handling of Off-line and improved the interface for Off-line games in general and especially for the sync of the Off-line boards. We have also made it easier for you to manual control Off-line mode. If you use On-line mode - as recommended unless you have bad internet/Wi-Fi - you can now switch to Off-line inside the game at a pop-up presented if relevant.
You can let the tablet handle the eventual Off-line if needed (Basic) or select /handle it yourself manually (Advanced) - we now show the Off-line Mode - as illustrated below. On the left, you will either see 3 green dots (On-line) or one red dot (Off-line). Notice the small A or M for automatic Off-line (it can automatically switch back if communication improves) or M for manual selected Off-line.
On the right, you can see either a small red dot - meaning you are off-line but have not reached a new round and therefore have not selected if the tablet handles the card eject at round change (TM - Tablet managed) or if the original selection of automatic eject (CM - Central managed) continues.
If you press any of these dots you will see the Play screen menu - which includes the Off-line information and menu items. You have a similar Off-line menu under Settings at the main menu.
We have also made the overall server communication and also eventual synchronisation communication much more efficient. We have also added options for you to see the results of the offline played boards / not synced boards (as illustrated above select "Off-line Menu items" and "Result Views"), You have similar options during and after the game.
The improved On/Off-line feature ensures you will be able to continue the game and synchronize results either during the game (when the issue is solved) or after the game.
Other improvements
We have also improved our server software (services) and reduced the resources requirements.
Remember, if you have not been able to start the game because the access to or server is down - you can now select the Backup server under Settings. The backup server will have a copy of your club details. If you have to use the backup server we will transfer your details to your server afterwards. The backup server is placed in a different geographical area and hereby, also protects when the normal server's ISP's hub is being bombarded by threats.
The backup server has actually never had to be used
Other new features and improvements will be described in a separate newsletter
