Monthly Updates from FSL Cluster

AUGUST 2021 - Key Achievements of FSL Cluster Partners in NW Syria


  • 44 partners implemented SO1, SO2 and SO3 activities in northwest Syria (NWS) in August 2021.
  • In August 2021, FSL partners delivered food assistance to the People in Need (PIN) in NWS, according to the following percentage of beneficiaries in 40 sub-districts (SDs) in NWS: 
    • 4 sub-districts reached above 100% PIN,
    • 2 sub-districts from 100% to 76% PIN,
    • 10 sub-districts from 75% to 51% PIN,
    • 9 sub-districts from 50% to 26% PIN, and 
    • 15 sub-districts were covered by less than 25% PIN.
  • In August 2021 a total of 1.7M beneficiaries were assisted through the distribution of 350K regular food assistance including food baskets, cash, or vouchers for food.
    • About 31K households (HHs) received an amount of 1,913,580 USD as vouchers for food (the voucher value is around 60 USD for each household), while 4K HHs received an amount of 239,040 USD as cash for food. 
  • 1.7M beneficiaries had access to bread and flour distributions (including WFP assistance through the corporate partners that distributed 15kg of flour to 1.3M beneficiaries).
  • 105K beneficiaries received Emergency Food Assistance.
  • 407K beneficiaries were supported by programs on agriculture, livestock, irrigation and livelihoods assistance from January to August 2021.

COMMUNICATIONS UPDATES


In September 2021, in addition to the regular monthly meetings (3 Area Coordination Groups, Agriculture TWG, Livestock TWG, Bread and Bakery CG, FSL Cluster Monthly Meeting), FSL Cluster has participated in the HISMA meeting led by OCHA, and a joint meeting was conducted with ERL and Shelter NFI Clusters. Two meetings were held with the Wheat Task Force and on sub-districts coverage with the partners.

Election process for the SAG members, Agriculture TWG and Bread and Bakery Coordination group co-coordinators was launched for partners' voting.

FSL Cluster participated in "Climate Change and its Impact on Food Security and Livelihoods" webinar organized by Syrian Academic Expertise (SAE) focusing on climate crisis challenges and strategies for impact mitigation. The recording of the webinar is available here.

AREA COORDINATION HIGHLIGHTS


IDLIB & WESTERN ALEPPO GOVERNORATES
  • 37 FSL partners implemented activities in August 2021 (34 partners on SO1, and 7 partners on SO2 - SO3).*
     
  • Out of 20 sub-districts in Idlib and Western Aleppo governorates, 2 sub-districts were covered by food assistance above 100% PIN (Jisr-Ash-Shugur, Mhambal), 2 SDs from 100% to 76% PIN, 6 SDs from 75% to 51% PIN, 6 SDs from 50% to 26% PIN, and 4 SDs (Ariha, Qourqeena, Salqin, Sarmin) were covered by less than 25% PIN.
     
  • 29 FSL partners have planned to implement food security programs in the next 3 months from November 2021 to January 2022 (29 partners on SO1, and 8 partners on SO2 - SO3).
*Some FSL partners implement projects under more than one Sector Objective.
NORTHERN ALEPPO * (A'zaz, Jarablus, and Al-Bab Districts)
  • 24 FSL partners implemented activities in August 2021 (20 partners on SO1, and 7 partners on SO2 - SO3).**
     
  • Out of 13 sub-districts in A'zaz-Jarablus and Tell Abiad corridors, no sub-district was covered by food assistance from 100% to 75% PIN, 1 SD was covered from 75% to 51% PIN, 2 SDs were covered from 50% to 26% PIN, and 10 SDs (Mare, Ar-Raee, Al Bab, Tell Abiad, Jarablus, Ras Al Ain, Arima, Ein Issa, Ghandorah, and Suluk)  were covered by less than 25% PIN.
     
  • 28 FSL partners have planned to implement food security programs over next 3 months from November 2021 to January 2022 (24 partners on SO1, and 13 partners on SO2 - SO3).
*Including 4 sub-districts Ras Al Ain, Ein Issa, Suluk, and Tell Abiad.

NORTHERN ALEPPO (Afrin District)
  • 15 FSL partners implemented activities in August 2021 (15 partners on SO1, and 3 partners on SO2 - SO3).*
     
  • Out of 7 sub-districts in Afrin, 2 sub-districts were reached by food assistance above 100% PIN (Jandairis and Raju), no SDs were reached from 100% to 76%, and 3 SDs from 75% to 51% PIN. 1 SD was covered from 50% to 26% PIN, and 1 SD (Sheikh El-Hadid) was covered by less than 25% PIN.
     
  • 18 FSL partners have planned to implement food security programs over next 3 months from November 2021 to January 2022 (15 partners on SO1, and 6 partners on SO2 - SO3).
