The North East Cyber Security Cluster

Welcome to CyberNorth's November newsletter.

In this months newsletter, we will be discussing:
  • Cyber Security skills
  • Education Ecosystem Workshop
  • A revisit of #CyberFest21
  • The CyberNorth Development Team
Cyber Security Skills

Earlier this year CyberNorth carried out some work on cyber security skills and employment opportunities across the region. This resulted in a plan with over 70 issues to be considered. A group of representatives from across the sector are getting together this month to make inroads into the plan. The group has voted on the issues to get the balance of effort against impact and have started with:

  • How to make the many roles on  offer in cyber security attractive to prospective students and employees.
  • Working with central and regional government to support initiatives such as CyberFirst.
  • Understanding existing educational and employment pathways into the sector.
  • Developing and maintaining a register of key people within the sector and region.
  • Making better us of student placements.
  • Understanding the different university cultures and offerings

This is a large piece or work that will feed into other skills initiatives taking place across the country. If you are interested in taking part please get in touch.

Education Ecosystem Workshop

Working with the National Cyber Security Centre, CyberNorth will be supporting its North East Cyber Security Education Ecosystem Workshop, to support young people to work in cyber security through initiatives such as CyberFirst.

The event will be held on Wednesday, 24 November 10:00am – 12:00pm at the Dobson Suite, Maldron Hotel,  17 Newgate Street, Newcastle NE1 5RE.

Details will be announced shortly but, if you are interested in attending, please get in touch.
#CyberFest Revisted

#CyberFest has been and gone for this year, though we have started thinking about next year’s. If you missed any of the events, don’t worry as the majority of the events are now posted on Dynamo’s YouTube channel along with the answers to questions raised here.

New CyberNorth Development Team

UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration (UKC3) funding has enabled CyberNorth to expand by bringing a small team together up until the end of March 22. Its focus will be on gaining a better understanding of the cyber security sector across the region:

Thea Scott, will be focussing on the local cyber security market, Danielle Phillips and Oliwia Tyralska will be focusing on business support, while Rachel Horton will be focussing on business planning and promotion. Over the coming few months they will be in touch with some of you as part of their information gathering exercise. The preliminary results of their work will be made available at our event planned for January 22 - details to follow.
