Sunday is a day of celebration for Roswell UMC and for our Student Ministry. Dr. Michael Cromwell shares his confirmation experience and encourages us to support our confirmands as they continue to grow in their faith.
Confirmation Sunday

Sunday is Confirmation Sunday. What an exciting day in the life of our church! It is a day of celebration; 13 students will be baptized, and 80+ students will profess their faith in Jesus Christ together and enter the membership of RUMC.

Did you go through confirmation as a young person? I remember going through confirmation in middle school. I don’t remember as much as I should, but I remember certain aspects of my confirmation experience. There were only two of us who went through confirmation in my home church that year – it was my friend, Bobby, and me. We met in the senior pastor’s office after church for a few weeks. I remember lots of “church-y” words and concepts that weren’t that clear to me.

Even though I don’t remember much about the lessons of confirmation, there is one thing that I remember quite vividly. When I was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a young person, the people in my home church took their “job” seriously to help raise me in the faith. They taught me Sunday School, led youth group meetings, took me on mission trips, let me hang out at their homes, and nurtured me in lots of other ways. My parents were extremely loving and supportive, and so was my home church. I am who I am because of those who chose to love me in my home church (in addition to my own family).

Well, now it’s our turn to help raise these students (and all children and youth in our church) in the faith. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar to make a difference. Your presence can be a ministry to others. As I mentioned, I don’t remember all of the details I learned in confirmation, but I remember the pastor and others in my church being there for me throughout my life. In fact, they are still loving me today – hundreds of miles away.

I want to take a moment of privilege and say thank you to the Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, VBS volunteers, and a host of others who are now loving on my children. My kids may not remember every detail of every lesson you teach them, but they will remember that you were there for them and you love them.

Are you ready to take your role seriously as a member of RUMC? If so, then I encourage you to find a way to help raise a young person in the faith. If you don’t know where to start, give me a call (770.261.1772) or send me an
email. I will be glad to find a way to help you discover how you can make a difference in the life of someone else.

Grace and peace,

Thank you, Michael. How will you encourage a young person to live a Christ-centered life? I hope you will reach out to Michael or me if you want to find a place to serve.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning!

We will be holding worship services in-person at 9 and 11:15 a.m. this Sunday.
