All Saints Gathering
Many Saints of Hope gathered with paper doves hanging from the alter
(first communion, 2018)

Dear People of Hope,

This All Saints Sunday we gather with all the saints of our lives and our church, throughout time and space.  As in recent years, we'll have the opportunity in worship to write the names of beloved saints on paper doves.  Then there will be a time to bring these doves up to the altar, and hang them in flight for the remainder of worship.  Different from our usual COVID practice, we'll remain indoors for communion, viewing the alter, with our zoom community and the saintly doves.

If you won't be present in person for worship, you may email or text names to me ahead of time.  Or if you will be worshiping by zoom, you may type your names into the chat box and volunteers will transcribe these names to doves.

This Sunday, we also continue congregational singing at Hope.

Peace of Christ, Pastor Julie
Congregational Meeting

Hope members meet this fall for our regular Congregational Meeting.  Come to hear updates about Hope's mission and ministry.  Elect new council members and other leaders.  Discuss and vote to approve the 2022 Mission Spending Plan (budget).  Watch for a paper letter in your mailbox, or simply save the date and zoom information from here.  See many of you there.

Fall Mission Appeal
Special financial giving, now through November 21

Each fall at Hope there is a special opportunity to give money, locally, regionally and beyond. Give locally to Refugee Resettlement as Hope prepares to support a family arriving from Afghanistan. Give regionally to Puerto Rico, where Hope and Humble Walk will be traveling this winter. Give internationally to Earthquake Relief in Haiti (through Lutheran Disaster Response).

You may put checks or envelopes in the offering basket or mail them to Hope. You may also give online through our regular online giving link (www.hopecp.org). You may give to a specific organization; unspecified donations will be divided equally among the three.
Puerto Rico Trip this Winter
December 29, 2021 - January 7, 2022

LAST CALL, sign up for this trip soon!

Complete this form to express intent to travel:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfrLJVUJzc6-ZqGGK0dzuX4CXSRnfDkVdAPs8tV8HlRG8Qxag/viewform

The trip costs are set:
Student Rate $450 (plus your airfare), price subsidized by Campus Ministry Grant

Non-Student Rage $650 (plus your airfare)

We have been invited by the Caribbean Synod for an accompaniment/relationship building trip between our ministry and the Puerto Rican Lutheran Church.  This trip, like one a few years ago to the Holy Land, will be made up of UMD students and Hope Church as we learn about the people, culture, and church in Puerto Rico.  Spanish is not required.

Curious, but not able to travel? There will be plenty of opportunities to pray, learn about, and support this trip from right here as well.
Support Afghan families moving to the area
in the coming weeks; reach out to Mary B to participate

UPDATE: Hope continues to wait until we are matched with a family resettling in this area.  We hear there are 344 teams ready to support a family and more than 150 families have resettled so far - so our turn should come in the next few months.  Learn more from Mary: mary.e.boyer@gmail.com or 202-509-7991.

Want to donate financially?
You can do this anytime by sending a check to Hope with "Refugee Resettlement" in the memo line.  Or give online, selecting "Refugee Resettlement Fund" in the drop-down menu: https://hopecp.org/donate.html.
