Problem-based Lessons for Elementary Mathematics
This module will help teachers learn to sequence problem-based math lessons to start with students independently solving a problem, followed by sharing of approaches and closing with discussion and comparison of multiple strategies. This teaching approach is more of a “you do, we do, I do” approach, with the teacher coming in during discussion and closure to add content input and academic language.
Audience: CTI Induction Coaches and Candidates. This session is geared toward the elementary classroom setting.

Assessing Elementary Math Student Performance
and Giving Feedback
How can you analyze student work in a way that helps you truly know what students understand and don’t understand about concepts? This session will engage you in analyzing a student’s work through use of a rubric, along with considerations for how to give specific feedback to the student. This session may also be of special interest if you are completing the CalTPA due to its focus on assessment and feedback.

Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA)
Overviews and Support Hours
This session will provide candidates and coaches with an overview of the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA), Participants will gain an understanding of the test structure and content, along with productive strategies including a timeline to use for test preparation. Time will also be spent clarifying how this additional credential requirement will align with the Induction experience.

Introduction to the TPA and Induction
Overviews and Support Hours
This session provides candidates and coaches with an overview of the teacher performance assessment (TPA) requirement, including basic information about the CalTPA and edTPA. Attendees will receive clarifying information regarding how to proceed with completing and submitting the TPA within the CTI induction program inquiry structure, including the supports that are in place for candidates and coaches.
