Hey Friend

Week 9 Waiver Wire

By King Petty on Nov 02, 2021 01:11 am

We've approached halfway mark for our new extended season. Yet again, injuries are piling up and many players who were comfortably at the top are scrambling while middling players may be cashing in and bottom players are seeing ray of hope. Whatever your position is, I'm here to help you navigate another week of football and set you up for success.

Teams on bye: Lions, Seahawks, Bucs, Washington

Quarterbacks

  • Taysom Hill vs TB (3% rostered)
  • Tyrod Taylor vs MIA (6% rostered)

Taysom should definitely be the top QB add this week, due to Jameis' unfortunate injury. He was an excellent fantasy player last season - sure, he won't have the same TE designation appeal - his ability and willingness to run the ball is what will make him in most situations a league saver. Note: This does dampen Kamara's volume moving forward. Tyrod Taylor should be returning in this game against Miami, at least that's the hope. To start the season, it certainly seemed he was going to give this franchise life, but that was ended abruptly due to injury. He makes for an intriguing Superflex start this week.

Others to consider: Tua Tagovailoa (35% rostered)
Players to avoid: Mike White, Jimmy G
Droppable: Teddy B

Runningbacks

  • Boston Scott v LAC (20% rostered)
  • Jeremy McNichols @ LAR (9% rostered)
  • Ty Johnson @ IND (5% rostered)

Well, we expected Scott to have a role, but he jumped straight into the starting role completely overshadowing the hype around Gainwell. This backfield is a strong RBBC offense at the moment, do I think that they'll continue to deploy this type of workload? Not a chance - but Scott will be the add moving forward. TD leagues, I'd lean Howard and in matchups that could see Philly trailing would be suited for Gainwell. We all woke up to the news that Derrick Henry could possibly miss the rest of season - while the injury is 6-10 weeks this doesn't guarantee he'll be back in time for fantasy relevancy. With the Titans also placing Darrynton Evans on season ending IR - it's expected that McNichols will be at the helm, given his little/to none workload they also signed Adrian Peterson - who'll have a role. Neither are an answer for this team, but I'd definitely prefer McNichols as my waiver add - and Peterson as my FCFS add. Ty has quietly placed himself into fantasy relevancy, while this now Michael Carter's backfield - it's clear the prefer Ty in passing downs, this past week be damned with Carter's 14 targets to Ty's 6. He's a decent flex option and flex consideration moving forward - he can very well become a RB2 and full workhorse in the event MC misses time.

Others to consider: Salvon Ahmed (2% rostered)  Adrian Peterson (6% rostered) Jordan Howard (3% rostered)
If they are still there: AJ Dillon (62% rostered)
Drop Candidates: Alex Collins, David Johnson, Mark Ingram
Players I'm avoiding: Tony Pollard, Kenneth Gainwell

Wide Receivers

  • Jamison Crowder @ IND (19% rostered)
  • Jamal Agnew v BUF (2% rostered)
  • Devante Parker v HST (35% rostered)

If you're rostering Evans, Godwin, DK, Lockett or McLaurin this section will be most important. No one could've expected the Jets to beat the red hot Bengals or Mike White throwing for 400 yards, but here we are. In the last 4 weeks, no matter the QB, Crowder is seeing significant volume across the border - he definitely should be rostered until further notice. At the moment, his value is higher in PPR formats. Agnew is making everyone forget about Shenault, rightfully so, after housing a Kick Six - it's not surprising that Jax decided they needed to get this guy the ball more. He's slowly becoming one of the top WRs in this offense, my recommendation is grab him as soon as possible. For Parker's most recent game, this comes as a surprise as, for me, I assumed only Ryan Fitzpatrick liked throwing to him. That said, I'm sure a lot of the volume had to do with Tre'Davious White focusing on Waddle rather than Parker. Either way, this cannot be ignored and with HST being up next he's a good start this week too.

Others to consider: Rashod Bateman v MIN (31% rostered) Van Jefferson v TEN (1% rostered) Tajae Sharpe at NO (0% rostered)
If they're still there: Cole Beasley (61% rostered) Hunter Renfrow @NYG (42% rostered)
Players I'm avoiding: Henry Ruggs, Darnell Mooney
Drop Candidates: Kalif Raymond, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sterling Shepard

Tight Ends

  • Dan Arnold v BUF (26% rostered)
  • Pat Friermuth v CHI (31% rostered)

I noted this, previously, but I really liked Jax trade for Dan Arnold. Prior to O'Shaughnessy's injury he was Trevor Lawrence's security blanket. It seems the bye allowed him to build rapport with Arnold to fully cement that security blanket status. He's like going to need to rely on Arnold again in a tough matchup with Buffalo. I went against my better judgement in some Start/Sits advising Uzomah over Pat, but the former Penn St TE is too "Heath-like" to ignore, seeing an uptick in targets and benefitting from JuJu's untimely injury - he should be rostered at this point.

Drop Candidates: Robert Tonyan (injury) Gerald Everett
