Dear Holy Cross Families,

We begin this month of November celebrating All Saints Day and All Souls Day, praying for and remembering the lives of those who have gone before us.  We will spend each November morning praying a litany of saints, naming the many saints our eighth graders chose to study as they prepared for Confirmation and our fourth graders chose for their All Saints Day projects.

As the winter months approach and there is a need for a school closing you will be alerted through the following sources:

  • A message via Remind and an email.

  • An announcement on our school website on the main page, under News and Announcements.

  • Detailed information on the school answering machine

  • Holy Cross Grade School delays and/or closings on WNDU16, WSBT22 and ABC57

Please note that we do not follow South Bend Community School Corporation or any other Catholic School closings.

We DO NOT  plan on having unscheduled eLearning days due to inclement weather unless absolutely necessary.  We have purposefully allowed for the possibility of two traditional snow days this year.  If winter weather forces us to close, we want our students (and teachers) to enjoy the surprise snow day as children have done so for generations, playing outside and building snowmen without the worries of connecting for eLearning!  However, if we must go beyond those two built-in days of possible closure then we will most likely have to transition to eLearning for future snow/ cold days in order to comply with our mandated 180 days of instruction.

Please remember that we have our second scheduled eLearning day this coming Monday, November 8th.  In an effort to continually improve the quality of instruction offered at Holy Cross, we have set aside five scheduled eLearning days throughout the school year for professional development for our faculty and staff.  Parent feedback from our first eLearning day a few weeks ago was very helpful and we plan to integrate a few minor changes that will, hopefully, help eLearning run smoothly for all grade levels. Please look for communication from your child’s teacher about expectations for Monday.

Have a great week!

Queridos padres y guardianes,

For the third year in a row, Holy Cross School has been voted the Best Private School in the South Bend Tribune Official Community Choice Awards. This is a great honor for our school, a wonderful recognition of the role that our school is now playing not only on the Westside but within the entire City of South Bend. Contributing to our city-wide reputation is the good academic reputation of the school, with our school maintaining its solid B grade from the state and its On My Way Pre-K level 3 rating, as well as our innovative immersion program that is now in its fifth year, reaching from Pre-K to 3 rd grade. This year’s weekly elective courses and school assemblies, enhanced faculty development programs, and other innovations demonstrate Annie Borjas’ determination to continue to develop the many strengths of our school.
In addition, the outstanding faculty, administration and support staff ensure that our students receive a quality education that focuses on the heart as well as the mind, which aims to form good, moral Christians as well as intelligent students. Holy Cross is blessed with students who genuinely care about and respect one another, and whose behavior is typically quite commendable (and who are challenged by faculty and staff when they do not exhibit Christian virtues in their behavior and relationships with one another).
A sincere thanks to all of you parishioners and parents who voted for Holy Cross School. Apparently many others in the South Bend community also voted for our school because of its reputation. With the support of our parish and school community, Holy Cross will continue to develop into the outstanding school it is meant to be.
