On Energy Day, the world's governments will be joined by businesses, investors, and researchers to share ideas and align efforts to build a bridge to the future where clean energy is accessible, affordable and used more efficiently.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak addressed COP26 yesterday, outlining a vision for transforming the UK into the world's first ‘Net Zero Aligned Financial Centre’, and how increased public investment, mobilised private finance, and rewiring the global financial system can deliver clean air and water; cheap, reliable and clean electricity, and more.
Yesterday's major COP26 outcomes include Mission Innovation - Breakthrough Energy Collaboration Agreement, the $100bn annual climate finance goal that will be delivered and $130 trillion of private finance aligned with net zero emissions via the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero. These commitments, from over 450 firms across 45 countries, can deliver the estimated $100 trillion of finance over the next three decades.
Thanks to a package of support from the UK and international partners, a 190-strong coalition has today agreed to both phase out coal power and end support for new coal power plants marking a momentous turning point in the global clean energy transition.
New commitments for climate financing came from the UK, Spain, Japan, Australia, Norway, Ireland and Luxembourg. This builds on the plan set out ahead of COP26 on the commitment to deliver $100 billion per year of climate finance to developing countries.

Lord Goldsmith attended the Green Zone where he spoke at the Global Witness event Fixing finance from the ground up: Making Indigenous voices count in the fight to stop deforestation. One of the key events of the day was the Generation Earthshot: Discover What It Takes To Win An Earthshot Prize student panel interviewing 2021 Generation Earthshot finalists.

Today's highlights include How sport can help kick carbon, with Sky Sports led by Sky Sports News presenter Mike Wedderburn, the SSE premier of Hydro: Powering a Net Zero Future and Corey Baker Dance Presents: Renewable Moves.

What's Coming Up?

5 November - Youth and Public Empowerment
The UK COP26 Presidency, in collaboration with YOUNGO (the Children and Youth Constituency of the UNFCCC) and other youth partners, will elevate youth voices and ensure a platform for young climate experts to engage with decision-makers on their pressing priorities. Events throughout the day will demonstrate the critical role of empowering, educating and training the public in driving climate action to keep 1.5°C alive.
5 November - Nature and Land Use - Day 1
Events on Nature and Land-Use - featured across two days - will demonstrate how governments, businesses, Indigenous Peoples, local communities and farmers are driving the transition towards more sustainable management of our land and ocean by protecting and restoring nature and reforming the food and farming system. It will demonstrate the role that nature can play in cultivating a healthier planet, and a more prosperous future for everyone.
