Today, we are pleased to announce that the outcome of that partnership will benefit students statewide as part of the newly-launched Cradle-to-Career Data System.
Superintendents, please note that the deadline for school districts to apply for the free program for the 2022-23 academic year is Nov. 16.
Established by California Assembly Bill 132 (AB 132), California’s Cradle-to-Career Data System brings together early education, K-12, higher education and social service systems to create better futures for California students while helping close California’s college opportunity gaps. It provides data-informed tools to:
Help students discover and reach their college and career goals.
Streamline students’ transitions from K-12 to higher education and from community colleges through transfer.
Deliver education and workforce outcome data that can help shape policy and advance educational equity.
In a pilot between CVHEC and CCGI originally sponsored by the California Community CollegeChancellor’s Office, the two educational organizations joined forces in 2018 to test the online platform, CaliforniaColleges.edu, which provides students with personalized tools that uses their official transcript data in coordination with the participating school district and the California Department of Education.
Historically, districts paid to cover the cost of CCGI’s transcript-informed tools and services. For the pilot project, the Central Valley partnership made these tools and services available to all 90 districts in the 10-county Central Valley region free of charge with 50 participating.
Serving as a one-stop-shop for career, college and financial aid planning, CaliforniaColleges.edu helps students discover career paths, plan coursework and launch and monitor their college and financial aid applications. Educators can view students’ planning progress and application statuses. (See how these tools support both students and educators in this video).
Working hand-in-hand with districts, CCGI provides Technical Assistance, training, and user support to help implement CCGI tools, improve “a-g” completion rates, and ensure students get credit for the coursework they’ve completed. This example proved critical to the design of the state-funded Cradle-to-Career Data System, which will sustain that investment and expand its reach to all 6th-12th grade students in California.
In our three-year pilot project with CCGI, the CVHEC team of Marcus Johnson and Elaine Cash worked diligently to enlist 50 of the 90 K-12 school districts in Central California’s 10-county region as active participants. These former district superintendents will now continue to work with the remaining 40 districts to take advantage of this state-funded, no-cost-to-district initiative that will streamline student data for an efficient transition to college.
We extend a special thank you to all involved in this successful effort for our students not just in the Central Valley, but statewide as well now.
