Hello Out There!

November - brrrr is at the end of this word, and I wonder where the name of this month came from? Wiki tells me: November is the eleventh and penultimate month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars, the fourth and last of four months to have a length of 30 days and the fifth and last of five months to have a length of fewer than 31 days. November was the ninth month of the calendar of Romulus c. 750 BC. November retained its name (from the Latin novem meaning "nine") when January and February  were added to the Roman calendar
The Zodiac signs are Scorpio and Saggitarius. There are meteor showers in November that have been going on for ages, but were noticed around the 1800s (hmm, telescopes?)
In America, we are thankful that the Natives helped the early settlers with food to get them through the winter months. Thanksgiving has become a time to be with families, which has been very difficult these past 2 years. Add what you are thankful for to Epiphany's FB page or here! Try to be thankful for one thing each day in November.
I am thankful for the joy of this parish as we struggle through the pandemic, through the loss of members, through changes that need to be decided upon, and especially for your help and understanding as we struggle together through this COVID time! I am blessed to serve here!

Plastic Recycling at Epiphany

Thanks to everyone who has been contributing to the recycling bin by the far door. The lovely Trex bench by the BBQ pit is evidence of our collective efforts. As we continue to accrue another 500 pounds, it's important to remember what can and cannot be recycled into composite lumber. Below is a helpful poster with guidelines. Find out more about Trex decking as well as additional information on what types of plastic are acceptable here.  Again, thank you for channeling the proper materials into a useful product and away from our overflowing landfills.

Please combine items in a plastic grocery bag and tie them closed before placing in the collection bin.  Thank you for being conscious of the persons who sort your donations

Ideas for Advent:

Which of the following appeals to you, and which would you actually attend/ support/participate in?  Would you prefer to meet in person or via Zoom? or both?

Advent book study suggestions:
1) John Grisham: Skipping Christmas
(20 short chapters, read 5 / week - buy own copy)
2) The Way of Love for Advent
https://www.episcopalchurch.org/journeying-way-love/
3) Mark Bozzuti-Jones:  The Womb of Advent [the baby grows in the womb] (buy your own copy).

Times/Days:
1) Mondays, beginning 11/29, 10 or 11 am OR
2) Tuesdays, beginning 11/30, 11:00 am or 7:00 pm OR
3) Thursdays, beginning 12/2 at 3 or 4 pm.

The day, time, and book selected will determine this Advent study together (5 people minimum). I'd like to see if we could meet at the Hillside Community Center, or the Dalton UMC, or someplace at Keystone College (please let me know your thoughts).

One Small Step Meals Are on Hold

We need a coordinator - or two - to take on the job of rallying volunteers and making phone calls for the monthly meals. The folks preparing the food have their hands full with planning, shopping, cooking, and serving; they need someone to help by organizing people to assist with preparation, serving, delivery, and clean-up. Speak with Deacon John if you can lend a hand.

Churches that are growing have members who LOVE to tell their friends, neighbors, family members about one thing they LOVE about their church.
What is ONE thing you LOVE about Epiphany that we can share (anonymously) with our friends and neighbors?
