IPPNWC Youth Creating Change

Reflecting on a Summer of Peace: Final Reports from our Interns

I have learned you are never too small to make a difference." - Greta Thunberg
After a summer of learning and working, our interns have successfully completed our first IPPNWC Summer Internship Program. Since this summer, they’ve gone onto great things in their new school year from acceptance into the Hiroshima ICAN Academy to their first year of university classes in pursuit of a career in medicine. Over the summer Board members worked closely with our interns along with our staff to help them develop their ideas, perspectives, and projects.

Generation No Nukes

IPPNWC Intern Summer Project

IPPNWC 2021 Summer Interns Avinashpall Singh and Rooj Ali pursued a joint project — creating an Instagram page dedicated to educating younger demographics on the effects and threats that nuclear weapons pose (click here to see). They also recognized the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, providing well-researched information on these massive historical events and memorializing those who lost their lives in these bombings.

Rooj and Avinashpall see social media as an essential tool in raising awareness of nuclear issues in the younger generation. They've seen growth and engagement in topics related to nuclear disarmament through this page and are eager to continue this project. Get Involved With IPPNWC

Invitation to become an Active Member
A great way to become more involved with IPPNWC is to apply to become an Active Member. Active Members receive exclusive updates on IPPNWC activities and programs, take a large part in our Speaker Series, and are now being invited to join IPPNWC organizational working groups!

Working groups are being launched this month where board members will lead a team of Active Members and experts on a topic central to IPPNWC’s activities. Working group topics include the implementation and promotion of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, addressing Small Modular Nuclear Reactors, and supporting IPPNWC’s advocacy-based social networking initiatives.

If you are interested in working with us on a campaign in your local area or nationally, you might be interested in joining our monthly Zoom call first as an observer. We discuss issues, share projects we are working on, and support each other in our work. There is no fee. The zoom call is on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 PM PDT, please send an email to admin@ippnwcanada.ca indicating if you wish to be an observer or an Active Member. We ask Active Members to submit a CV and Application Form. Email admin@ippnwcanada.ca to apply to become an Active Member.
