The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) selected the State of Maine as a Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) and after a year of effort, Maine has released a new coordinated community plan to prevent and end youth and young adult homelessness. Check it out here
The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) has released a report that reveals widespread abuse and neglect at for-profit youth residential treatment facilities in 18 states. Read the press release or check the report out here
Also, the National Juvenile Justice Network (NJJN) has released their policy platform report on how to keep young people with mental health challenges out of the youth justice system. Download that report here

Research

Research on Team Decision Making in child welfare settings finds that using this type of meeting or process has positive outcomes for child care workers, children, and families. Read more about the research here or check out the fact sheet here.

R E G I O N A L    C A R E    T E A M S

All three regional care teams met in October. Note that data above has not been updated due to a transition in data tracking systems currently underway. 

Region 1:Team was updated on the status of previously served youth and provided with a review of the past year of the RCT initiative as presented to the Children's Cabinet in September.
Region 2: Care team review came up with ideas of community supports to connect to youth transitioning from Long Creek prior to reentry.
Region 3: Team explored social and economic determinants of health that could inform continuum of care development in the region.
