Breaking Dam Removal News

New Video Released about Lithuania's Second Ever Dam Removal!

Lithuania removed its second ever dam in September 2021. The Salantai Dam blocked 29 kilometers of natural Salantas River stretches and its tributaries, which provide spawning grounds for salmonids and other fish. Besides salmonids and lampreys, the river Salantas is also home to several other species protected by the Republic of Lithuania: thick-shelled river mussels, European bullheads, otters, and kingfishers.

The Salantai Regional Park Authority just published a video about the project, detailing the positive effects of dam removals and the story behind the removal of the Salantai Dam! The video is in Lithuanian with English subtitles.
