Thankful! That's how we feel about our faculty and staff partners across campus, helping MU students to grow and develop and achieve success. November is National Career Development Month and so we have some resources and advice about ways you can help students explore their major and career options and develop their career readiness.
Referrals for Students with Career or Major Questions

During early registration it's common for students to reflect on their academic plans and career goals. If students indicate they have career questions or have uncertainty, here are some recommendations you can make:
  • Visit the Career Center and speak with a Career Specialist for guidance and resources. Students can connect with us online or on Zoom. Details at https://career.missouri.edu/connect.
  • Enroll in the SSC 2100 Career Explorations class for an in-depth option. This is a one-credit hour course that helps students learn about their interests and develop skills to make informed career decisions. We still have openings in sections 1, 2, and 5.
  • Attend a virtual mini career workshop on Exploring Career & Majors offered every weekday at 3:00 pm. This 20-minute session gives students the key information and confidence to get started!
Wednesday, November 10th
3:00 pm – 3:45 pm
Virtual Panel

Encourage students to participate in a virtual panel to hear from career services professionals, who are former first-gen students, for ideas on how to use resourcefulness to become career ready during college and beyond. Students should bring questions and the panelist will bring the tips! You will receive a Zoom link for the event after registering on Handshake: https://bit.ly/top5firstgen

Student Moderator: Ashtin Holman, MU Career Center Career Specialist
Student Panelist: Mikey Shores, MU Career Center Career Specialist

Staff Panelists and Consultants: Carrie Collier, MU Career Center; Luke Gorham, School of Health Professions, Lindsay Hing, Trulaske College of Business; Rob McDaniels, MU Career Center; Laura Peiter, MU Career Center; Amanda Purchase Roberts, MU Career Center
