The Vision Initiative works with its partners to develop high quality education modules for primary health care and allied health professionals.. Each of these modules is designed to assist practitioners with embedding eye health in their day-to-day conversations with patients, identifying patients at risk of vision loss and referring patients to the appropriate eye care services.

Roundtable: Young People residing in residential aged care (YPRIAC)

This course is for: Disability providers supporting or wishing to learn about the YPRIAC cohort

The NDIA is interested in supporting young people residing in residential aged care settings to explore other options for accommodation and living that may be more appropriate for their needs.
 
NDS in Queensland is providing this opportunity for disability service providers to come together, raise questions and discuss concerns. NDS will listen, note your questions and concerns, and source information and solutions to help you understand YPRIAC better.

2021 Shingles Vaccination Update for Frontline Health Care Professionals

Featuring Prof Robert Booy and Dr Andrew Baird
6pm AEDT (1 Hour)

This webinar will provide attendees with an update regarding shingles epidemiology and current trends in vaccination rates.
 
Low shingles vaccination rates in Australian adults impact the epidemiology of the disease. This webinar will explore what current guidelines advise regarding improving pertussis vaccination rates in Australia, and therefore reducing disease burden and complications.
 
It will discuss the two shingles vaccinations available in Australia, comparing efficacy, safety, dosage regimens and indications for each vaccine.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Describe the epidemiology of shingles in various population groups, including persons aged over 65 years

  2. Outline current vaccination rates in older Australians, and recognised strategies for improving uptake of shingles vaccines

  3. Explain the possible clinical sequelae associated with shingles, including serious complications, impact on quality of life, and the particular risk attributed to persons aged over 80 years

  4. Identify the patients in whom shingles vaccination is a priority, based on age and medical comorbidities

  5. Describe and compare the two shingles vaccines currently available in Australia, including safety profiles, efficacy, dosage regimens and cost

Diabetes Qualified Diabetes in Practice for Nurses eLearning


Details of the course include:

  • Duration: 12 hours

  • Modules: 16

  • CPD: 12 hours (APNA endorsed)

  • Price: $110 – subsidised by the NDSS – LIMITED NUMBERS (normally $325)

Learning outcomes:

  • Update your knowledge on diabetes management

  • Improve your ability to support the person living with diabetes and have a more helpful conversation using health literacy principles

  • Know how to ask the right questions, and when to refer to other health professionals for more individualised advice

Sexual and Reproductive Health in Primary Care 

This two-part online course aims to provide practitioners with an overview of sexual and reproductive health care in general practice. Topics in this session include sexual health, sexual history taking, STI screening, contraception and unintended pregnancy consultations. 

 

This course is for: general practitioners, general practitioner registrars, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, and other practitioners working in primary care settings in Australia. 

 

Part One: Saturday 13 November 2021, 10:30am - 1:30pm (AEDT) 

Part Two: Saturday 20 November 2021, 10:30am - 1:30pm (AEDT) 

 

Please note that you will need to attend both workshops in order to receive RACGP and ACRRM CPD points. 

 

This education is a CPD Activity under the RACGP CPD Program. 40 points allocated. Approved by ACRRM for 6 Educational Activity PDP hours.
