Cambridge Christmas Collection Out Now!

Christmas is looming and what better way to get in the festive spirit or explore the meaning of the season with the kids than with a Christmas story. Be sure to check out our special collection of both books and DVDs on display now in the Children's Library.
All items can be borrowed for the standard loan period of 4 weeks.
Don’t throw out your old photos!

Local Studies recently held a morning tea at the Library to remind people- “Don’t throw out your old photos!”.
Warren Duffy, founder and author of the hugely popular Facebook sites “Lost Perth” and “Perth Reflects” entertained the crowd with photos and anecdotes of times past.
It was also the launch of the new “Old Plank Road out to City Beach” video – compiled from audio excerpts from our Cambridge Voices oral histories and old photos.
As they say, “every picture tells a story” and your old photos tell us many stories. The charming 1955 photo of Stella Earnshaw (above) not only shows a 1950’s car and golf clubs, but also tells us a story of Nanson Street at the time. The second photo is taken from a similar position 65 years later and the house across the street is still recognisable!
So bring in your old photos (or scans of them) to Local Studies, and share the unique history and heritage of the Town of Cambridge. We use your old photos to tell stories in our:
  • Oral History interview transcripts
  • Local history blog
  • Themed photo album collections
  • Library window displays
  • Photo boards for school talks
  • Jigsaw puzzles
  • Compilation DVDs such as “The Old Plank Road” and “Floreat Forum 55th Anniversary”
Check out the Local Studies Library pages here and discover our past.
