Find out more about an exciting opportunity for students to join our team, the new Advanced Class Rep Training, and the start of the new Steps to Partnership open course for staff professional development.

Join the team: We're hiring two Student Associate Interns!

The NStEP partners are seeking applications for two exciting new Student Associate Internships. These are part-time paid positions available for a fixed-term period of 6 months, commencing in late 2021. The interns will work on two projects:
  • Developing student engagement initiatives for postgraduate research (PGR) cohorts, including the development of new resources to support greater PGR involvement in representation and institutional decision-making. This project will form a key part of NStEP's efforts to support greater participation of postgraduate researchers.
  • Supporting and enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in student engagement practices and policies, as well as supporting EDI through student representation. This project will build on the Diversity Training we offer to student representatives.

We've added more options for student training and development!

NStEP’s Student Training Programme is in full swing this semester, with 41 training sessions delivered to over 450 class reps by our team of student trainers. NStEP will continue to deliver a busy training schedule during the autumn semester up to 17 December. Institutions and students’ unions who have not yet booked Introductory Class Rep Training are welcome to contact Jeffrey Cox, NStEP Development Coordinator, to enquire about available training options.

Training now available for class reps to book directly on our Student Portal. [link below]

Three training options are now available for students to book directly on NStEP’s Student Portal. All of these training options are peer-facilitated by our team of student trainers, and delivered in a 90 minute online format over zoom. Reps from any of NStEP’s participating institutions / SUs are welcome to sign up for a session that best fits their schedule.
  • 'Open' Introductory Class Rep Training - This module is the starting point for reps who wish to work towards a Student Engagement Recognition Award for Academic Representation.
  • Advanced Class Rep Training (new!) - This training is designed to support growth in the rep role for returning reps who have previously completed NStEP’s Introductory Class Rep Training.
  • Representing Diversity training - This training introduces tools and resources to help students effectively represent their diverse classmates and empower peers from all backgrounds and lived experiences to get involved in student engagement in decision-making.
All of our training leads to digital badge awards that students can use to demonstrate their learning and development.

Steps to Partnership: A new Open Course for Professional Development in Irish higher education gets underway

NStEP was delighted to launch a new professional development opportunity in partnership with the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning.

Participants from 19 higher education institutions are taking part in the first delivery of the course. The course will be available again in 2022. Further information will be circulated in advance.
More news from NStEP:
  • NStEP, USI, and QQI welcomed a new group of Student Quality Assurance Reviewers to the team last month! Our approach to students in QA recognises that students are experts, and through training we seek to support students to put that expertise to use in review processes. Higher education providers can request student members of the pool to join upcoming review panels using this online form.
