Dear Shutesbury Residents:

You may know that the Pfizer Covid vaccine for children ages five and up is now becoming available, and other manufacturers are developing vaccines for this age group.  At present some pediatric offices may have the vaccine; according to the Mass. Department of Public Health, there will soon be appointments available at hundreds of other sites.

One such site, where you can register now, is the VaxBus, sponsored by the Franklin Regional Council of Governments.  This bus will travel to several elementary schools in Franklin County during the next month.  Vaccination will be offered not only for children but also for any adult, including those who are eligible for a booster shot.  To view the VaxBus flyer and registration information, please visit https://www.shutesbury.org/pandemic-information

If you are interested in the science of mRNA technology, now being used for Covid vaccines and hopefully to treat and prevent disease in the future, you may like a segment of the TED Radio Hour featuring Kathryn Whitehead of Carnegie Mellon University, who works on the problem of how to get mRNA to the cells where it’s needed.  The show can be easily found using Google.
