This Week's Spotlights

Message from Pastor Anna
On behalf of my family (both nuclear and extended), we would like to thank you for your cards, notes, snacks, and (most importantly) prayers after my dad's death. I am so grateful to know that we are so cared for by this community.
Worship Sunday
Beloved, what if we pay closer attention to the Advent layers of hope, love, joy and peace this season?  We may be able to give ourselves the gift of self-awareness as we pay attention to how it is all connected to Christ.  All the emotions, all the experiences, all the layers invite us to keep Christ in the center of the circle, not just the center of our Advent Candle wreath - but the center of our thinking, the center of our being, the center of our families and of our community.   Church - let us look to the lights of Advent as we wait and pay attention to what Christ has done, what Christ is doing and what Christ will do in us, in our church and in our world.  You are all so very loved.
Policy Concerns from Your Pastors
We remain steadfast in caring for our neighbor and we continue to take steps to respond to the affects of COVID 19.
We will stay vigilant in our efforts to protect our community.  Please remember that any person over the age of two must “mask up” before entering our building, regardless of vaccination status, and will remain masked for the duration of their stay in the building.  Masks are available if needed.
We are all called to the ministries of serving, caring, and connecting with one another safely. May we change more and more into the likeness of Jesus.

United Methodist Student Day is November 28

Worrying about college expenses is just one of the anxieties that many young students struggle with. It can take away from their ability to excel in their studies or to immerse themselves in valuable activities at college. But for United Methodist students, the UMC is always there to help them accomplish their goals. For more than 100 years, United Methodists have been supporting their students’ educational needs through a special fund. This Sunday, we will celebrate United Methodist Student Day by receiving a special offering. When you give to the UM Student Day offering, your gifts support the Gift of Hope Scholarship program, which awards scholarships to deserving United Methodist students annually. When you give to this special offering, you invest in young leaders who bring their Wesleyan values into their schools and professions.

To give, please visit here or write a check to Linworth UMC with "UM Student Day" in the memo line. To read about the impact that the UM Student Day offering makes, click here.

Thanksgiving OfferiThanksgiving Offering
Each year, LUMC invites our church family to contribute toward a special Thanksgiving Offering, which benefits the "In Our Own Backyard" mission fund. This fund supports ministries and outreach efforts that are nearby, in our local area: Smoky Row Food Pantry, NNEMAP Food Pantry, IMPACT at Claremont, and others. We appreciate your ongoing support in this unique season! You can contribute athere or by writing a check to the church with "Thanksgiving Offering" in the memo line. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.
Cards for Christ Ministry
This is the last weekend to drop off cards!  Share the love of God with the incarcerated throughout Ohio this Advent season with Christmas cards.  You may drop off your cards at the Church office between 830 and 430 during the week or on Sunday mornings.  Follow the Facebook page or contact Pastor Sara at pastorsara@linworthumc.org with any questions.  Cards need to be dropped off at LUMC by Tuesday Nov 28th.
Walking in the Worship Center

Would you like to meet to walk, talk or just spend time in community at  LUMC? You are invited to meet Pastor Sara on 3 Wednesdays in December. Mark your calendar for Dec 1, 8 and 15th at 10 a.m. We will meet in the Linworth Worship Center at 10am for a time of devotion and connection.  Kindly register if you would like to attend, click here.
Advent & the Arts
Sunday, December 5 from 1-3pm
One way we prepare for the Christ Child is by pulling out our family decorations from Christmases past as we reminisce. We remember who gave us each ornament, where we found some, and when we made certain other ornaments with loved ones. The collection of decorations  is always changing and we often make room for more. LUMC would like to invite you to join in for an afternoon of creativity as we gather to make Christmas projects and memories together on December 5, 1-3pm, in the Fellowship Hall. We will provide the supplies and the Christmas devotion.  We ask that you register here or call the church office.
Linworth Christmas Tree
In the absence of being physically together last Christmas, we created a "Linworth Family Christmas Tree." This tree has one ornament from each family at Linworth UMC, and we want to ensure we have yours! If you are new to Linworth or if you did not get a chance to bring an ornament last year, we would love to add yours to the tree this year! You can bring your ornament for drop off when you pick up your Advent-in-a-Box, bring your ornament to worship, or drop it off in the office. If you need someone to pick an ornament up (if you are not driving or are choosing not to leave home), please call the office.
As you are planning which ornament to share, please know we will not be returning the ornaments. You may also bring a short note about your ornament (including your family name). We continue to enjoy this beautiful and meaningful addition to our Advent and Christmas Worship experience.

Our 2021 holiday Adopt-a-Family program is underway! We have made some changes to our program this year. We are providing for families from Brookside Elementary School, Perry Middle School and Smoky Row Food Pantry. Each child will be provided two gifts of approximately $30 each (1 toy or game and 1 necessity item). Each family will receive a $50 gift card for food and a family bible / devotional book. All gifts and donations should be returned to church by Sunday, December 19. You can drop off items in the church office between 8:30 am to 4:00 pm—Monday thru Friday or Sunday mornings at our designated location near the front entrance of the church (next to the office). If these times do not work for you, please call or email Stephanie office@linworthumc.org to arrange a convenient time for drop off. Cash donations can be mailed to the church to Matthew Smith’s attention or contributed through electronic giving on the church website.  All questions and interest in volunteering can be directed to Daphne Kackloudis, who is coordinating this year's program dlkackloudis@gmail.com or 614-940-4543. Through our Adopt-A-Family outreach, together we can share the love of Christ at Christmas with those in need. Please find the list of families and details here.

Poinsettia For Christmas
Poinsettias can be purchased in honor or in memory of a loved one, and will be displayed during our Christmas Eve services. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a dedication to a friend or family member while adding to the beauty of our church during the Christmas season. Poinsettias are $10 each and can be picked up after the 10:00 pm service on Christmas Eve or donated for distribution to a family in our neighborhood. In order to purchase a poinsettia, please pick up an order form at the church, contact the church office, or fill out the online order formOrders are due by Sunday, December 19th.

Alternative Gift Market

What IS an Alternative Gift Market? It is a different kind of shopping experience. Gifts are purchased in honor of family members and friends. Instead of buying another tie for Uncle Fred or another stuffed animal for your grandson, you might decide to provide tuition and supplies to allow a child in Laos to attend school, or purchase the nails to build a house for a needy family in Columbus. Then you receive a card telling your family member or friend about this unique present given in their honor.
Why are there Alternative Gift Markets? Many of the world’s critical needs today are going unmet. They are a celebration of abundant life for all of the people in the world. They are an appropriate non-profit response to consumerism. They can nourish peace in our local and global neighborhood.
How do you do it? You may pick up your Alternative Gift Market shopping list at a table in the narthex any Sunday in November. Complete the form and place it with your check in the offering baskets at the rear of the sanctuary, or mail them to the church office. You may also give digitally by clicking here.
You can make a WORLD of difference this Christmas!

Jurisdictional Conference Reflections
Last week Pastor Anna met alongside leaders in the North Central Jurisdiction (NCJ) to participate in the special session of the Jurisdictional Conference. The main work of the conference was to set directions for our denomination as lived out in the NCJ moving forward.

You can also read about the NCJ Conference here, which includes a link to a full summary, the "Call to Grace" documents written and adopted by the delegates, and delegate reflections: https://www.westohioumc.org/conference/news/ncj-delegates-talk-anti-racism-and-future-vote-reduce-bishops-1
Donations for Ronald McDonald House
We are still collecting pop tops for the Ronald McDonald House to aid with programming.  We are also collecting old glasses to take to Lens Crafters to help overseas.  You can drop off in the designated bin at the top of the coat rack near the stairs or drop off in the office. If you need more information about this outreach, please contact Cathy Jones or Stephanie, office@linworthumc.org or 614-336-8485.
UMW Cookie Sale
We are heart-broken to announce that the United Methodist Women’s cookie sale is canceled again this year. And we appreciate those of you who contributed to our “no calorie cookie” fund raiser last year. UMW is again asking your support this year. If you would like to donate the amount you would usually spend on making cookies, or what you would usually spend buying cookies, it would allow us to continue to help women, youth, and children here in Ohio, in the country, and world-wide.
The majority of the money we raise is our pledge to the national United Methodist Women for missions in the US and the world, without administrative fees! Click here for a detailed list.
This past year our Linworth UMW has been unable to prepare food for those in need near the Clair Avenue UMC, but we will start again in January. We have helped with purchasing fruit monthly for Choices, and have started back up making 150 sandwiches every month for the Faith Mission. We donated money to the Community Development for All People center, the Friendly Center in Toledo; West Ohio “Light the Way” campaign; Mid-Ohio Food Bank, UMCOR disaster relief fund; God’s Hygiene Health Center; the Salvation Army, and other worthy causes.

If you would like to help us, you can send your check made out to Linworth UMW to our treasurer, Nancy Belt, 6727 McVey Blvd., Columbus, OH 43235.
And please consider joining us whenever we get back to regular meetings next year.
