Product of the Month

Vivier® GrenzCine Face is an advanced and concentrated face cream that hydrates and firms the skin while diminishing fine lines and wrinkles and increasing luminosity.

Why we love it:
It is formulated with Vivier’s innovative GrenzCine technology, Polyamine-DAB® (1,4-Diaminobutane) which plays a vital role in the recovery of skin structure and barrier function through the upregulation of collagen and lipid synthesis in aged cells.

Active Ingredients include:

  1. Polyamine-DAB® works from the “outside-in” to repair the Epidermal-Dermal Junction (“Grenz Zone”) and Epidermis.
  2. Vitamin C works from the “inside-out” as a powerful antioxidant to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and boost collagen production.
  3. Activ8 Complex is a proprietary blend of peptides, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and moisturizers that help to enhance skin elasticity, brighten and hydrate the skin.

Study Explores Relative Efficacy, Safety Of Nanosecond, Picosecond Durations For Laser-Assisted Tattoo Removal
Dermatology Advisor (11/11/21) reports data “describe the relative efficacy and safety of 2 laser systems for tattoo removal.” According to the study published in Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, “comparable tattoo clearance results were obtained with laser pulses with nanosecond duration (NSL) and picosecond duration (PSL), though PSL appeared to cause less collateral skin damage.” Patient-reported pain was much less with PSL compared with NSL. The duration of adverse skin events (blistering, pruritus, burning sensation) was shorter with PSL vs NSL. The study “included 23 patients with 30 total tattoos.”

Biotin Supplementation Rarely Necessary, Dermatologist Says
In Dermatology World (11/17/21), Warren R. Heymann, MD, FAAD reports, “Biotin (vitamin B7, vitamin H, coenzyme R) is a water-soluble vitamin that acts as a coenzyme of four kinds of carboxylase...in mitochondria, facilitating three major metabolic reactions,” and that it is recommended that people take “30 μg/day of biotin, and a normal Western diet consists of 35 to 70 μg/day.” Supplementing that amount “is only rarely necessary…in congenital and acquired cases of biotin deficiency.” In these cases, symptoms appear as “alopecia (hair loss), eczematous skin rashes, seborrheic dermatitis, conjunctivitis, and multiple neurological symptoms, such as depression, lethargy, hypotonia, and seizures.” He concludes by saying, “to date there is no evidence that it promotes hair and nail growth or quality in otherwise healthy patients,” and “patients must be warned that biotin supplementation could adversely affect streptavidin/biotin-based laboratory assays (giving rise to false measurement).”

Combining Alexandrite Laser Treatment, Oral Zinc May Help Decrease Severity of Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Research Suggests
Healio (11/16/21) reports, “Combining alexandrite laser treatment and oral zinc could help decrease hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) severity,” researchers concluded in a “prospective study of the use of alexandrite hair removal laser 755 nm in 40 HS patients with Hurley stage I or stage II disease.” The findings were published online in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Laser Hair Removal

How does it work?
The laser emits a beam of light, which the pigment (color) in your hair absorbs. Over time, this can destroy the hair follicle, so the hair cannot grow back. While it takes about 6 treatments from a dermatologist to destroy a follicle, the hair will grow back thinner and finer after each treatment.
If you use at-home laser hair removal, you will need to use the device for a lot longer to see results. You’ll also need to use it periodically to maintain results.
The following considerations can help you decide whether this may be an option for you:

  • It can take 6 treatments more, but laser hair removal is permanent, except for on a woman’s face.
  • People of all skin colors can safely have laser hair removal, but the person performing the procedure on people who have skin of color should have experience performing laser hair removal on darker skin tones.
  • There’s no downtime.
  • Men who have constant razor burn or ingrown hairs due to shaving can permanently eliminate their beard with laser hair removal. Once you’re no longer shaving, you won’t be bothered by razor burn or ingrown hairs.
  • Laser hair removal won’t work on blonde, white, gray, or red hair because lasers cannot effectively target light-colored hair.
  • You’ll need to keep the treated area covered and out of the sun until the skin heals.
  • If you have a tan, you must wait for the tan to fade completely before it’s safe to have laser hair removal.

How to get the best results: Your results depend largely on the experience and knowledge of the person performing your procedure, so it’s essential to:
  • Have an experienced doctor perform laser hair removal. While laser hair removal may look easy to perform, it can injure your skin if the person performing your treatment is inexperienced. Possible injuries include burns, blisters, infection, or dark spots.
  • Find out if this is a safe and effective option for you. A board-certified dermatologist can tell you if you’re a good candidate for laser hair removal. Not everyone is.

See your dermatologist before using an at-home laser. These at-home devices are not for everyone. There are many at-home devices from which to choose, so it can be difficult to know which one to buy.
