Hello Diabetes Council Members,

Last call! Registration for the 2021 Diabetes Council Workplan Clinics, and applications to be a Guide in the 2022 Peer-to-Peer Program close this week! These opportunities are exclusively offered for NACDD Diabetes Council Members (that's you!), and are highly acclaimed by previous participants. We know you'll love them.
Diabetes Council Workplan Clinics are BACK!

NACDD's Diabetes Council Mentoring Workgroup and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are excited to invite you to an upcoming Workplan Clinic. The two-hour, hands-on-learning Clinics were a huge hit last year and are designed to stimulate deep thinking about your DP18-1815 Year 5 diabetes workplan. You and a group of your peers from other states will:
  • Gain skills to help you prepare a well written and thoughtful workplan that clearly demonstrates your intent
  • Learn about CDC resources available to help you develop high-quality activities that are designed to achieve performance measures
  • Discuss the value of aligning your workplan and budget, and
  • Acquire tips to fix common grammar and style mistakes.
To register, review the below document, then click the date that works best for your schedule.

Now Recruiting Guides for the 2022 Peg Adams
Peer-to-Peer Program

Applications are open for DP1815/DP1817 staff who have two or more years of experience to become a Peg Adams Peer to Peer Program Guide. This is an excellent opportunity to build your mentorship skills, shape the future of public health, and help some of your newest colleagues from around the country.
Registration closes at 5 pm PT on Nov. 24.
APPLY TO BECOME A GUIDE
From February to December 2022, Guides will:
  • be paired with no more than five Learners who have less than two years of experience;
  • meet monthly to share ideas, experiences, and information; and
  • attend a Guide orientation meeting in early January, and a kickoff meeting in late January.
One Learner recently commented about their Guide,

I really like that she [Guide] has us share successes we've had, which helps shine a positive light on our efforts when it can be hard to see out from under all the challenging work. I have appreciated having my mentor and group as a resource when I could use an outside perspective.
Pam Geis, Co-Chair of the NACDD Diabetes Council Mentoring Workgroup, shares about her time as a Guide in the Peg Adams Peer-to-Peer Program.
Each team of a Guide and Learners will set its own meeting schedule and preferred method of contact. Many Guides have expressed that the time commitment is light and can often be accomplished in approximately one hour per month.

The Peg Adams Peer-to-Peer Program has been matching new staff with more experienced staff for more than a decade. Previous Guides have indicated that the experience is as helpful to them as it is to new staff. Guide/Learner teams will discuss outcomes and strategies related to the DP1815 and DP1817 grants.

In addition to the intrinsic benefits of helping colleagues, Guides receive special consideration for conference scholarships. Recently one of our Guides shared, “I may be the guide, but I feel we are all learning from each other. The opportunity to share what each has done or is working on for Cat. A is the main topic of discussion, however we have talked about how to strategically engage pharmacies more, how we are adapting during COVID-19 and other things that the participants feel they need to discuss.”

The Program needs Guides that have a variety of diabetes experience, including program administration, policy, marketing, epidemiology, and evaluation. You don’t have to be an expert, just willing to create a safe space for peer-to-peer sharing.

If you are interested in being a Guide, complete the application by November 24, 2021.
