FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:

Federal COVID relief funds from the American Rescue Plan are now available to support community schools. More information about how these funds can be used can be found in the U.S. Department of Education’s Frequently Asked Questions

Additional funds may also be soon available. Congress has not yet approved the federal budget for Fiscal Year 2022 but proposals on the table would dramatically expand the Full-Service Community Schools grant program by $370 million. Details about how these funds might support the planning, implementation, and operation of full-service community schools can be found here

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS EXPANDING:

While the community schools strategy is thriving around the country, many southern and rural communities are just beginning to launch community schools.

The NEA Foundation is working with communities in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi to support the development of exemplar community schools. To learn more about this work, check out the Southern Regional Alliance for Community Schools.

Starting this week, NYProjectHope is offering new Grieving and Healing Online Wellness Group on Mondays at 5:30pm—open to all and no registration required. The groups are free, confidential, and anonymous.

  • Site Visits

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY SCHOOL?

Using schools as hubs, community schools bring educators, families, and community partners together to offer a wide range of opportunities, supports, and services to students, as well as their families and communities.

Community schools:
  • Provide expanded learning opportunities that are motivating and engaging during the school day, after school, and in the summer
  • Offer integrated health and social supports and services
  • Engage families and communities as assets in the lives of their children
