Hi Gorgeous,

One of the best parts of hosting a podcast is the opportunity to chat with women I admire. No matter how low-energy I feel before an interview or many writing deadlines I have looming on the horizon, I always, always, always end the interview in a better mood than when it started.

But here's something I notice when I go back to edit the audio. As I listen back to our conversation with the transcript up on my monitor, I notice a lot of these words and phrase:

it's just...
I think...
In my experience...
For me...

Sure, there's a time and a place for these words. But when you use them over and over and you're talking about your own experiences, they detract from your credibility.

If you have something to say (and I know you do), it's okay to say it without a qualifier.
It's okay to claim your knowledge and your expertise.
You have permission to own your brilliance.
Actually f*ck that because you don't need permission to shine — not mine or anyone else's.

So can we please stop dimming our light with these words?

If you're ready to stop letting obsessive thoughts about movement, food, and your body interfere with your sparkle, I can help. I have a couple of coaching slots opening up in the new year. Click here to learn more.

5 Things Worth Checking Out

  • Loved this Outside article highlighting how surfing is starting to to embrace bodies that don't fit the thin, white ideal  h/t Nina Badzin
  • Olympian Elise Cranny talks about how she healed her relationship with food and what she wants other women to know about intuitive eating on the Real Fit podcast.

  • I've been binge-listening to Aack Cast by Jamie Loftus, a podcast that takes a DEEP dive into the Cathy comic strip, including reflections on the way Cathy intersects with feminism, diet culture, and more.

  • My latest article for the Washington Post on how to deal with diet talk at the Thanksgiving table if you're done (or want to be done) with obsessing about your weight, your body, and who is eating what.
The Real Fit podcast features real conversations with women athletes on topics like body image and confidence, my goal is to share stories that will let you know you're not alone and that you're already enough.
