Using funds donated by generous supporters last Giving Tuesday, PAWV awarded Saving Historical Places grants totaling $17,750 to five at-risk historical properties in West Virginia. These included the Wyoming Hotel, the Pence Hotel, Philippi's Grand Theatre, Matthews Foundry in Martinsburg, and Duffields Depot. For some of these sites, support from our Saving Historical Places grants makes emergency stabilization work feasible - it's the difference between history lost or saved. Thanks to your support, these properties are on the trajectory towards success.
In addition to awarding Saving Historical Places grants, we secured a $550,000 Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant to be used to help preserve West Virginia’s endangered historic buildings! The Alliance also won a grant from the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns to help restore Philippi’s Grand Theatre, facilitated 3 hands-on workshops and 2 webinars, met with federal leaders to advocate for historic preservation initiatives like the Historic Tax Credit and the historic preservation fund, and managed the Preserve WV AmeriCorps program that placed members to assist at historical sites around the state!
Help keep this momentum going into 2022 and beyond by donating to PAWV this Giving Tuesday. Historic buildings are more than just a physical structure - they are the heart of our communities. Your gift directly supports the preservation of West Virginia’s irreplaceable cultural assets, and contributes to the revitalization of cities and towns across the state.
