NOTES - NOVEMBER 2021

In this issue:

A New Look!

Have you visited our website recently? We hope you will be as enthusiastic as we are about its creative new design featuring engaging photos, our colorful logo, and plenty of easy to access information. We are grateful to our Board of Directors and the other members of our organization who contributed great suggestions and valuable advice as we streamlined and updated the site. Special thanks to Lori Einarson, and the team at Relish Branding Inc. who patiently listened to our website ideas and expertly brought them to life. And by the way, our new website design makes it easy to donate to the important work of Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library.

A Candle Exclusive

We are excited to announce a new collaboration between Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library and the very popular Coal and Canary Candle Company. Thanks to the dedicated work of Board Member Lori Bekolay there is now a special Coal and Canary candle featuring our name and lively owl logo on the box. The candle has a unique vanilla, ivy, and myrrh scent created just for us. It would make the perfect gift for all the book lovers on your Christmas list. The Friends Coal and Canary Candles are available exclusively in our Best of Friends Gift Shop at the Millennium Library and through GoodLocal. Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library members receive a 10% discount on their candle purchases. This is a great way to do your gift shopping and support Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library at the same time.

It's Been an Honour

Ed Cuddy who recently retired as Manager of Library Services for Winnipeg Public Libraries was awarded a Lifetime Membership by the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library at their September meeting. A donation was also made in Ed’s name to his charity of choice, Ka Ni Kanichihk, an organization that provides Indigenous led prevention and intervention programs and services.

Ed was the Library Liaison for Friends from 2011 to 2016 and over the years has provided our organization with ongoing support and a personal commitment to our projects and fund raisers. It’s been an honour to work with Ed and we wish him well in his retirement.

Thank you and Congratulations

Theresa Lomas has served as the Library Liaison for the Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library since 2016. We can’t thank Theresa enough for the support and encouragement she has extended to us. Theresa provided detailed updates on what was happening in the libraries across the city each month and willingly and faithfully conveyed our questions and ideas to the Winnipeg Public Library Management Team. Theresa has been serving a term as the Acting Manager of Library Services and on December 6 will assume her new position as Administrative Coordinator of Branch Services. We will miss her but wish her all the best in her new library role.
