WEBINAR: Policing during a crisis: learnings from the COVID-19 pandemic
30 November 2021 | 9:00-11:00 EST | IN SPANISH & ENGLISH
The COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented challenges for governments across the world. The responsibility for ensuring compliance with new public health rules often fell to the police. The most effective approaches were those that prioritised rights-based policing, rather than rushing to enforcement, punishment, and prosecution.
In this webinar, we’ll discuss a report (also available in Spanish) by Fair Trials, the African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum (APCOF) and The Global Law Enforcement Public Health Association, which demonstrates the need for policy decisions that are properly planned, clear and well-explained, and applied equitably. We will also explore the conclusions of other research into policing during the COVID-19 pandemic, looking at how the key lessons learnt can be applied to other crises in international contexts.
The webinar will be held in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation into English.
