APPLY TO ION FOR FUNDS
Applications are due December 10. Funds are available to improve access, quality, and equity in afterschool and summer programs. Funds will support community-based organizations operating comprehensive out-of-school time (OST) programming school during the second half of this academic year. Awards range from $10,000 to $45,000. Programs should provide evidence-based afterschool and summer programming focusing on academic, social, and emotional learning for students most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE
APPLY NOW!
The Idaho Out-of-School Network will host the Behavior Management Institite (BMI) this February with Dr. Katie Azevedo. The purpose of BMI is to share research-based strategies with youth program providers serving youth in out-of-school time. The training is intended to be a team approach to behavior management. Although it is recommended to have individuals attend from the same program/site location for an immersive experience, it is open to any combination of providers that identify as a team.
Tier 1 (Behavior Management 101):
• Building Rapport and Relationships
• Creating and Teaching Consistent and Effective Expectations
• Acknowledging Positive Behavior and Providing Effective Feedback
• Implementing Consistent and Predictable Consequences
Tier 2 (Trauma Informed Practices):
• The importance of creating positive learning environments
• Trauma: what it is, the prevalence, the impact
• Trigger and the escalation cycle
• Trauma-sensitive classroom practices
Tier 3 (Youth Mental Health) - New in 2022!
• Youth Mental Health: what are the concerns, what is positive mental health
• Building systems that meet students needs
• Expanding on Trauma-sensitive classroom practices
Training Dates:
Tier 1: February 14, 2022 (For participants new to the Behavior Management Institute)
Tier 2: February 15, 2022 (For participants who have completed Tier 1)
Tier 3: February 16, 2022 (For participants who have completed Tier 1 and Tier 2)
Location: Boise State University and concurrently online for those teams unable to join in person.

WEBINAR: RACE, EQUITY, & INCLUSION SESSION #4
Join this candid discussion for out-of-school time programs. These workshops center around Anti-racist and Anti-bias examples in school settings. Presenters provide understanding into the fundamental premise of creating an Antiracist learning environment. True stories and research in schools will illustrate the need to foster an inclusive learning space for all youth.

NEW FUNDS VIA SCHOOL DISTRICTS
The American Rescue Plan provides school district with funds to support youth in both in and out of school settings. ION has documented how schools and afterschool programs are working together to help students with learning recovery. THINK MAKE CREATE
Thanks to more than a dozen private and public STEM partners, more than 8,000 youth in Idaho now have access to TMC Mobilie Makerspace labs in rural and underserved communities. More than 120 educators and afterschool professionals have been trained to use the labs. More trainings are being scheduled in collaboration with the Idaho State Department of Education, UI Extension Service 4-H and other partners.

TECH GIRLS GO GLOBAL
The US Department of State is welcome girls between the ages of 15 and 17 with an interest in pursuing higher education or career in STEM fields to an international summer program to be held July 8 - Aug. 3rd in the U.S. For more information contact Sharon Cates scates@sde.idaho.gov.

COVID AFTER SCHOOL?
Please help ION document how the pandemic has impacted your afterschool program and help influence policies for recovery. This survey takes approximately 10 minutes and your responses will be anonymous.

This is the sixth wave of the Afterschool in the Time of COVID-19 survey. Findings from previous waves were shared with federal policymakers and featured in publications such as Education Week and Youth Today.

Host Sites Needed
Makers + Mentors Network is excited to officially launch a call for applications to organizations to serve as host sites for AmeriCorps VISTA members through our Maker Fellows program. AmeriCorps Maker Fellows will serve a one year term starting in July or August 2022. The program is designed to leverage maker-centered learning to strengthen connections between K-12 students, post-secondary institutions, and workforce entry and entrepreneurship pathways.
Prospective host sites will be asked to show the following: 1) community need, 2) capacity to provide an outstanding service year experience, and 3) programming that could benefit from a short-term infusion of a national service member to create long-term sustainability.
