Team MBYC News and Upcoming Events

Things have been as busy as ever for Team MBYC Sailors and Families as we head into the Winter months. The shorter days and colder temps have nothing on these adventurous sailors. From Sabots to CFJs, Lasers to C420s, Capri 22s to Snipes and beyond...our sailors are learning new things every week and we can't wait to see what 2022 holds for our program!

Junior Commodore's Regatta

Things started to feel more "normal" than they have in a long time as we were able to have a proper awards ceremony for the Junior Commodore's Regatta, Nov 6-7 at MBYC. Team MBYC had 30 sailors on the water between Lasers and Sabots!!
In Sabots, we had finishers in the top 5 in four of the five fleets. In B Fleet, Colin K and Cody P took 3rd and 5th respectively. Kai K, Loki B and Clare S took 1st, 2nd and 3rd in C1, the largest fleet at the event with a whopping 28 boats on the line! In C2s, Kai K had a string performance Sunday to take 3rd overall while our C3s had a great weekend with Emanuel S finishing 3rd and Alexander M finishing 4th!
Lasers had the second largest fleet of the event with 21 boats on the line. MBYC Sailors took 6 of the top 10 positions with Oakley C trophying in 2nd and Allie S in 5th overall. Great job everyone!!
We'd like to also thank all the volunteers who helped run the races. You are appreciated!!

Snipe Junior Nationals
&
Special Juniors

Being hosted right at home at MBYC meant that a bunch of our more experienced sailors were able to take part in this special event, the Snipe Junior Nationals & Special Juniors. "Junior" in the Snipe class is anyone under 22 years of age. And the "Special" division has kids skipper and parents crew.

Our homegrown rockstars Diego and Ximena flew from college back East to sail the Junior Nationals as it is also a qualifier for the Snipe Junior Worlds to be held in Portugal in 2022! And it's no surprise that the wildly talented sibling team took the win with nearly all bullets (one 2nd only after a complete mainsheet failure going into the finish). We were SO impressed by all our teams out there. Snipes are technical boats and the kids showed true grit and solid competence. Oakley with crew Carter, and Owen with Efe rounded out the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Kenyon R with dad Ken took home the win in the "Special" division. Our sailors have a new appreciation of this competitive yet friendly International Class and we're excited to see the fresh energy in the fleet going into future events.
PCISA Anteater Regatta - High School

With MBYC now a Southern California hub of High School Sailing, we were excited to send so many kids to Newport Beach for the PCISA Anteater Regatta hosted by UC Irvine. Francis Parker, Mission Bay High School and Cathedral Catholic all had teams at this second regatta of the 5 major PCISA ranking events over the school year. Next up will be Rose Bowl hosted by USC, Jan 8-9 and we expect to have even more sailors at that one!
