FINGALLIANS V ERINS ISLE
13TH NOVEMBER 2021
INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

What a week it has been for our history making Hurlers winning the Intermediate Championship for the 1st time in our long history with a thirteen point win over a gallant Erins Isle team. The anticipation leading up to the game was very keen with all involved around the club & community getting involved. It was great to see the club part of the County Final weekend program & see below the main extracts.

The excitement of County Final day is always huge but despite this our lads stayed fully focused on the job at hand.

The crowd that showed up from every part of the club was fantastic and no doubt spurred on the lads all day. The support in particular from our juvenile section was greatly appreciated by all the panel.

The first half was a tight affair with both teams matching each other score by score resulting in a half time deadlock of 9 points each.

However some inspiring words from Ryan at half time saw our lads drive on in the second half to a well deserved win.

Always hard to mention specific players but the heroics of our back line to limit Erins Isle to just one point in the second half was impressive with Conor Byrne in particular to the fore and Shane Howard backing up the backline from midfield together with Ian Kennedy. In the forwards many points from Sean Hickey, Darragh Power, despite playing with a hand injury, and the Eoin O' Connor frees inspired the team to victory together with the important goal from Mark Cullen. And no goal passed Shane Nolan. But this was a panel performance with every player contributing to a historic victory.

Not to forget the management team led by Ryan O'Dwyer together with Daithí Crowley, Heath Hayward, Gary Duggan & Dom O'Reilly. A fantastic job lads and thanks from everyone in the club. And although not in picture on stats Ryan Groves.

Of course teams don't come together overnight and it was great to see some of our talented juvenile coaches meet the players after. Take a bow Ger O' Connor with your 2002 lads!

A great family occasion for the Howard family. Niall of course inspired and managed the 1997 lads and also many of the adult teams through the years.

The team of course was led by captain Ian Kennedy whose father Mick has tirelessly worked for hurling in the club and led Fingallians to Junior A glory in 2010. But last Sunday was not the first time Ian had met this cup. See below from 1992 when Mick won the trophy himself as a player and gave Ian a first taste of what it might be like to win it!

We also can't forget some of the men who started the whole journey and it was great to see Colm Crowley & many more there to celebrate with the team. Colm, Paddy Kelly, Derry Murphy, Eoin Martin, Anthony O' Shea, Gary Beresford, Des Foley, Noel Delaney, Paul Carney, Carl Jones and Charlie Rogan have also been through thick & thin driving  hurling in the club and no doubt must be happy to see Senior Hurling finally earned after all the years. Not forgetting the great support from club chairman Colin Foley and Liam O'Cúlbaird who left no stone unturned to promote the game in the last few weeks and all the photographs from Noel & Dave.

To the players, management and everyone who have supported all along the way thanks for making history last Sunday.

And also great to see plenty of coverage in the media for the club.

Thanks to everyone for contributing to history.

And despite a late night on Sunday our players still managed to get to Oldtown yesterday and we are delighted to report that the Indian is now resting safely back with Fingallians!!

We now look forward to welcoming Castleknock to Lawless Park next Sunday @ 2.30pm to try to get to Leinster. See you all there for the next adventure!
