The Gospel of Mark 13:1-37 – Take Heed…Watch…and Pray!

While in Jerusalem, Jesus’ disciples expressed their admiration of the massive stones and structures found in Jerusalem. Anyone would have been impressed with what they saw. Herod’s Temple was massive and brilliant—it’s white marble and gold exterior sat 15 stories high on top of Mount Moriah and could have been seen for miles.

But all this splendor didn’t impress Jesus. In Jesus’ response to His disciples, we see that He cares more about the temple of the Holy Spirit (our hearts) than He does about any temple made with human hands.

In fact, His response is shocking and loaded with prophecy and personal application. Watch or listen to our study of Mark 13 as we carefully considered Jesus’ instruction to take heed, watch, and pray.

Read Ahead!

Our ministry is very simple ministry. Every Sunday morning, we go through the Bible chapter by chapter, and verse by verse. We pick up where we left off from the week before (Lord willing).

We work though the word this way so that you can study ahead. It gives you an opportunity to read and study the portion during the week that we’ll be going though on a Sunday. Then on Sundays, you’ll get that much more out of our time together.

We encourage everyone to have some sort of intentional effort to read through the entirety of the scriptures on your own (Three and One is a great way to do this). Read through the Bible. Talk to Jesus before (and after) you study. Look at what the text says, consider what it means, and find ways to apply what you’ve read to your life. Then ask God to help you walk it out by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Check out our Bible study resource page with links to some wonderful Bible teachers, free online resources to help study, and a short & simple break-down of the inductive Bible study method.

Take Heed…Watch…and Pray!

In Mark 13, there are things Jesus says that speak to what the apostles would go through. There are things Jesus says that speak to what tribulation saints will go through. And there are things Jesus says that speak to what we are going through right now.

To each, Jesus gives a similar instruction—take heed. Pay attention!

Read the Bible. Talk to God—ask Him how He wants you to function in your daily responsibilities, in your workplace, and in your relationships. Talk to Him about everything.

If you have made Him the Lord of your life, you are a part of His kingdom. He loves you and wants to use you. He has radical things for you in the smallest bits of faithfulness that will ripple on into eternity that you might never know about until eternity.

Trust Him. Love Him. Serve Him. And actively wait from Him in the meantime, for Jesus is returning soon!
