The shepherds said to one another, "let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened which the Lord told us through the angels…. a baby lying in a manger, a Savior who is Christ the Lord."  Luke 2:16

Thanksgiving Distribution and Message
Please come to our Christmas Open House on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Jericho Road from 4:30 to 7:00.  We will be having special soups, salad and goodies (compliments of Thrivent Financial and Beth Bohnsack) and a special Christmas gift.  A short program will take place
Starting with a time of prayer at 8:00 AM our team of volunteers worked non-stop till noon organizing and distributing Thanksgiving Food.  All told 250 people were able to receive Turkeys, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and a wonderful assortment of items for a Thanksgiving meal.  With the price of food climbing to inflation heights unseen it was very gratifying for all involved to see the twinkle in their eyes and smiles behind the masks of people who graciously received these items.

I had the opportunity to share my families long-time table grace prayer that fits perfectly with Thanksgiving.  It comes directly from Psalm 107:1 & 8: “Oh give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.  For he satisfies the longing soul and the hungry soul he fills with good things.”

We can Thank God for the creation of the Universe and our perfect habitable planet Earth with air, water, gravity, soil, and sunshine.  We can Thank God for giving humans, animals and plants life itself.  We can Thank God For loving us so much that He would carry out a plan to die on the cross for our sins .  Truly we can join the Psalmist in saying give Thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Our longing souls find Peace in God through forgiveness of sin and prayer and our hungry souls have our bodies nourished with good food and water/milk.  May God use this Thanksgiving prayer to bless many all year.

Covid/Flu Shots

The University of Minnesota Fairview Clinic came to Jericho Road to administer Covid 1st, 2nd, or Booster Pfizer and Moderna Shots and Flu Shots in conjunction with our Thanksgiving distribution.

Pastor John, seen above, rolled up his sleeve and took a Covid shot for all to see in the sanctuary where people were waiting.  One grateful lady who was encouraged by Pastor John took her first Covid shot.

For many people in the cities they do not have jobs that give them Paid Time Off or Sick Leave.  Getting the Flu or Covid could take people out of work weeks or even months.  Rent and Utilities don’t get paid when this happens.  So, since its inception, Jericho Road has always felt strongly about making Flu and now Covid shots available to keep people healthy and working.  We are very happy to say Fifty-Seven Covid and Flu shots were administered.

Lastly, Thank You to everyone who donated to Give to The Max!  Our match of $1,500 was met!  Each of those dollars matter greatly now as we are trying to end the year with a balanced budget!

A Box Full of Kisses

There is a story about a very creative preschooler named Diane (not her real name) that has come to my attention.  Money was tight that year.  As a result, it is perhaps understandable that her father was quite upset with Diane for “wasting” a roll of gold wrapping paper.  She was simply doing her best to decorate a box to put under the tree.  Little Diane was crushed by his rebuke, but proceeded anyway with her project, motivated by a determination that was out of proportion to her young age.

The next morning, as gifts were being exchanged, Diane carefully picked up the bright gold clad box and brought it to her father.  Embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, he mumbled a low-key apology and proceeded to unwrap the box.  Opening it, his anger flared again when he found the box empty.  His voice was louder than he actually intended as he critically stated that she should know better than to give someone a “gift” with nothing inside of it.  Devastated by his reaction, with tears rolling down her cheeks, she shakily defended her gift by telling him the box was not empty at all.  She has blown kisses into the box, and they were all for him.  Stricken by this new information of his daughter’s love, creative intent, and thoughtful gift, he put his arms around her.  And this time his apology was deep and sincere as he asked for her forgiveness.

It is said that the man kept that gold box on a shelf by his desk for many years.  Whenever he needed a “pick me up” for any reason, he would open the box and take out one of those imaginary kisses.  In doing so, he would remember the love of his daughter for her father.
In a very real sense, each of us, as human beings, have been given a gold clad box filled with the unconditional love of God for His children.  Though we cannot see the gold clad box with our eyes, we can see it with our hearts.  We see it with the shepherds in Luke 2 as they said to one another, let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened which the Lord told us through the angels…. a baby lying in a manger, a Savior who is Christ the Lord.  We see it again, not as a gift under a tree, but hanging on a tree, as John 19:18 says, “there they crucified Him”.

Now it is our turn to ask forgiveness for so often missing, ignoring or taking too lightly the message of God’s love.  And it is our turn to pass the message of God’s love along to others, which is exactly what you are so effectively doing through Jericho Road Ministries.

May God bless you abundantly for loving, caring and sharing so deeply by your gifts and prayers, flowing through JRM, to families and individuals with crisis needs.
