An update from your union officers:
HTEC officers called a meeting with Dr. Meadows this past Tuesday to discuss pressing issues that need immediate action. A combination of unfilled positions, no substitutes, a lack of duty-free breaks and lunches for our elementary teachers, insufficient prep time, and a lack of clear COVID protocols have led to dangerous levels of teacher burnout at many of our schools. In order to address these issues, we asked that administration come to the bargaining table as soon as possible. We expressed to them the urgency of the situation and our fear that teachers would leave the organization if these concerns go unaddressed.
For our part, HTEC is ready to bargain! We have formally presented our bargaining platform, High Standards for High Tech, have elected a bargaining team, and we want to start negotiations as soon as possible!
Dr. Meadows and the administration’s bargaining team could not provide bargaining dates yet, but he has promised to get back to us by the end of this week. We will keep you updated on their response, and we promise that we will keep fighting for you!

Have you already voted for a union representative for your school site?
Until now, our Organizing Committee has gotten the union off the ground, and we have interim site representatives who have formed a link between each site and the union. However, it is time to make sure we have democratically elected representatives at each site. Each school is running their own elections before the end of November. If you have not gotten election information yet at your school, please reach out!

Our final Organizing Committee meeting is TODAY!
Our OC has been meeting weekly on Thursdays, but those meetings will soon be replaced by less frequent representative council meetings once we have elected representatives at each site. This afternoon we will have one last OC meeting to check in on elections and talk about other important updates. Please feel free to join!
