Reflections

I have facilitated the #IamRemarkable workshop over 60 times now to adults over the last 2 years. In the sessions we unpack the themes of visibility and self-advocacy in the workplace. This week I hosted this session for students for the first time. Jackie Ferdinand is the Director of Safeguarding and Inclusion at Westham United FC. She has attended the workshop with me and could see the potential impact it might have on the girls in the academy. It was great being back with a group of teenagers and we explored the messages they have received from society, their families and their school about how they should be humble about their achievements. It was really inspiring listening to their journeys and the challenges they have faced in securing their places in the squad.

We unpacked similar themes in my most recent Women of the World masterclass for Isa. My session was on Courage and I gifted them the #WomenEd mantra of being 10% braver and what that might look and feel like for their lives and their careers.

If you would like to challenge your own mindset about these areas, then my next open #IamRemarkable session is on December 10th.

Highlights

It has been great to get out and about to go to events to reconnect with people I know and to meet new people. I recently went to Coventry for the Leading a Whole Education at Primary where I did a 2-part keynote on culture and ethos, and then on leading change in your contexts.

I also disappeared to Switzerland for a few days to attend my first Oppi Festival. I have known Claudia Barwell and Darina Garland since they started this series of alternative education events, but I have never managed to attend as they are held during the working week and at different destinations across Europe. This year it was held in the beautiful mountain resort of Champery. It was a great opportunity to stop and reflect on the journey and to revisit the goals of the work that I do. I attended some brilliant workshops on storytelling and rulemaking/ rule breaking.

Opportunities

The MA in Education, Ethics and Leadership that I developed and lead is now well underway. I am enjoying the weekly seminars with my group of Middle Leaders. In this module we are exploring the purpose of education and our belief systems. Recruitment is open for next year’s programme.

Consulting

I am delighted to be continuing my consulting relationships with a few trusts this year to consolidate work from last year - I am the Remarkable Women lead for AET and the DEI lead for Summit Learning Trust. I am also working with some new schools to support them on transforming their culture and ethos and some new trusts on their DEI strategy across a group of schools to make it sustainable.

Coaching

I have really enjoyed meeting my new coaching clients for the Academy of Women Leaders - I will be supporting them monthly throughout their 12 month programme. I am also learning lots about school and trust operations by coaching COOs, CFOs and CTOs.

Programmes

Our latest cohort for the REAL: Woman programme has launched and we had a great opening webinar, followed by a session on Clarity of Direction from one of our coaches, Audrey Pantelis.

We have a number of our cohorts from our DEI leaders programme heading towards their final session of their 1 year programme, it has been a privilege celebrating the journeys that they have been on individually and collectively in driving their DEI strategies.
