News & Events

Quarterly Neighborhood Meeting & Holiday Party

Join your neighbors at the White Rock Ale House patio on Tuesday, November 30 from 7-9 p.m. for the annual Lakewood Hills Holiday Party & Quarterly Meeting! Light apps will be provided by the Neighborhood Association. RSVP to Evite so we can provide a headcount to the venue. This is also when we start the process of electing board members for next year; please email board@lakewoodhills.org if you are interested in learning more and getting involved (President and Vice President are both currently open for 2022!).

If you would like to contribute to the 2nd Annual Fa-La-La-Lakewood! Neighborhood Curbside Toy Drive (details below) benefiting Dallas Children's Advocacy Center but cannot attend that on December 4th, please feel free to bring your items on November 30 and we will drop off on behalf of Lakewood Hills.

Ladies Night – Thursday, November 18 @ 7 p.m.

Come out and join us tonight from 7-9pm for Ladies Night!  Our host this month is Jessie Blackburn at 7110 Casa Loma.  Bring a drink and/or snack to share or just bring yourself.  And whether you can just drop by for a bit after the kids are in bed or can come for the whole time, we would love to see you there.

Book Club – Monday, November 15 @ 6:30 p.m.

Please join us! We are happy to welcome new neighbors and friends to the Book Club. For our next selection, we chose The Exiles by Christina Baker Kline (author of The Orphan Train), which has over 4 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. Our next meeting will be Monday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m. Location TBD. Please email Stacy Mach with any questions.
In this gorgeous novel, Christina Baker Kline brilliantly recreates the beginnings of a new society in a beautiful and challenging land, telling the story of Australia from a fresh perspective, through the experiences of Evangeline, Hazel, and Mathinna. While life in Australia is punishing and often brutally unfair, it is also, for some, an opportunity: for redemption, for a new way of life, for unimagined freedom. Told in exquisite detail and incisive prose, The Exiles is a story of grace born from hardship, the unbreakable bonds of female friendships, and the unfettering of legacy.
Other Considerations:

Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Day @ 10 a.m.

Before you gobble, get out of the house for a little wobble… I mean, a walk! Take a walk with your family and friends or sit in your front yard to greet passing neighbors on Thursday, November 25 between 10-11 a.m. If you are young (or young at heart!), stop by Rosanne and David’s house at 7002 Coronado and pick up a fun turkey-themed craft!

Crime Watch and Neighborhood Association Renewal Time

Please take a moment and renew your annual Crime Watch membership ($200 per family, $500 per Business Sponsorship) and Neighborhood Association dues ($25 per family, $12 per seniors). We need your continued financial support to keep our Crime Watch program going; Neighborhood Association dues go towards maintaining our website and e-news, funding our wonderful events throughout the year, and completing beautification/neighborhood improvement projects.

We have NEW Crime Watch yard signs, and they will be dropped off to all who renew by your dedicated Crime Watch Board volunteers! Please consider putting the old signs in back alleys to deter lurkers, or recycle if they are done.

Crime Watch Reminders

Process for Requesting Home Checks While Away

If you are a Crime Watch Member, our ENP officers will check on your home when you're out of town. When you'd like a home check, please email CrimeWatch@LakewoodHills.org with the dates you're going to be away, your address, and any other brief information you deem relevant (e.g., if they should expect anyone there pet sitting). All information provided will of course stay private between our ENP officers and the Crime Watch Board. You may email us as far in advance as you like. Please provide at least 4 days notice as we update the Crime Watch calendar on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Tips to Prevent Crime

(Based on both feedback from our officers and the Crime Watch Board)

  • Protect yourself and your loved ones by keeping your doors locked. This includes doors to your house, garage, gates and cars. Most "break-ins" that happen in our neighborhood are because things are left unlocked.
  • Don't leave garage doors open or cars running in the street or driveway, even for a minute.
  • Don't announce any new purchases by leaving boxes out on the curb during bulk trash week. Break them down and put them in the bins.
  • Report all security issues to 911 (our patrol officer will be notified immediately if during a shift). After calling 911, e-mail CrimeWatch@LakewoodHills.org. We have a direct line to our ENP officers and will let them know of all incidents, but all incidents (urgent and non, as prioritized by 911) must be reported through a 911 call. You may also report crimes online here.
  • Check your back alleys. Make sure that your alleys are clean from debris and overhanging or overgrown trees and are well-lit. Don't create easy hiding spots. The patrol officers drive through the back alleys to do their checks, so make sure the path is clear for them.
