Featured Quilter this Month
Merry Christmas from Lisa Calvert

I made this quilt with 2 Christmas jelly rolls that I bought when Joni Grace opened her quilt shop where the Guthrie County Art Council has their retail store now. As a fabric lover and a quilter, I don’t always have a plan when I buy fabric. This quilt was made using the pattern called “Two Step” from Annie’s Quilt Designs. You put a 1 ½ inch strip between 2 jelly roll strips. Then you cross cut them into 5 ½ inch blocks. You twist the blocks and put a 1 ½ inch sashing between the blocks and the rows.

I started this quilt when Jodi and the kids were staying with us for a week after the derecho hit their place in August of 2020. The grandkids took turns running the sewing machine “foot feet.” Since we were sewing long strips, I let them push the foot pedal until I said STOP. They stopped and I realigned the strips and we repeated the process several times.

This pattern can be used with scraps or any color combination. It goes together fairly quickly. This will go on a queen size bed. You can adjust this pattern to whatever size of quilt you want.

Deb Wilson at Farm Girl Studio machine quilted this quilt with her long arm machine.

Quilters!

The MJB Library would like to invite area quilters to share their quilts for a month. We have had several people contact us already and have filled months up to April 2022.  Let us know if you are interested in being added to the schedule for 2022.
Thank you for allowing us to display the beauty and mastery of this art form throughout the coming months.
Collectors!
We have openings for the glass case display for the coming months.  The MJB Library would like to showcase some of the many different collections that Guthrie County residents have in their homes.  In the past our glass display case has had wood carvings, sea shells, "Little Women" plates, "Cows on Parade" and tractors (among other collections).
If you would like to share YOUR collection, please call us at the library 641-747-8110 or email us at mjblib@guthriecenter.lib.ia.us.
