This Week at SOTH

From Pastor Kristen

Many thanks to everyone who made it possible for me to retreat for ten days at Our Lady of Grace Monastery with the sisters of St. Benedict who live, work, and pray there. Thank you to Pr. Jeff Lindgren who led worship and preached last Sunday.

Opportunities

Congregational Budget Meeting

This Sunday, November 21, after worship, the SOTH congregation will gather to vote on two items:

  1. Updates to the Congregational Constitution
  2. 2022 Congregational Budget
You may preview the budget online before the meeting. Please keep this information private.

The meeting will also have an online option via Zoom if you cannot join in person. However, all votes need to be conveyed to the treasurer (Daryl H.) or president (Sam J.) before the start of Sunday's meeting. You must be present in the Zoom meeting in order for your vote to count. See the budget document for more information on voting procedure.

The Zoom meeting will open at 9:45 a.m.

Proposed Constitutional Changes

Every three years the Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) meets and approves updates on the Model Constitution of the ELCA. Shepherd of the Hills is in the process of updating our Congregation Constitution so that it is in line with the ELCA Model Constitution.

In addition to making the changes required by the national church body, the SOTH Congregational Council proposes additional changes to our specific constitution. These changes must be made over a series of congregational meetings. We will begin the approval process at the Congregational Budget Meeting on Sunday, November 21.

In preparation for that meeting, the proposed changes are available in print and online for members to review. You can access the documents online on our website: https://sothstl.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Simplified-Proposed-SOTH-revised-constitution-v_4.5.pdf or see a printed copy in the fellowship area.

Advent 2021

The year’s mid-week Advent worship will lean into the quiet character of Advent with its themes of listening, waiting, and expectation. Each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom we will gather online for a brief time of song, silence, and prayer. The theme of these services will embrace the darkness of these long Advent nights as a place where we encounter the beauty and mystery of God.

Dec 1 –   Darkness Is Holy

Dec 8 –   Darkness Is Beautiful

Dec 15 – Darkness Holds Promise

Dec 22 – Darkness Holds God

Other Advent Opportunities
Each Sunday in Advent, there will be two Advent activities after worship.  We will record the hymns for the coming Wednesday worship service.  We will also add Christmas decorations to the sanctuary little by little each week until finally, on Christmas Eve, we will light the lights and celebrate the birth of the Christ Child.

Worship

Join us each Sunday in-person or livestreamed at 9 a.m. on the Shepherd of the Hills ELCA St Louis YouTube channel.

We continue our mitigation practices of encouraging vaccination, wearing masks, keeping six feet apart, and limiting both time spent singing and length of the worship service. If you are not feeling well or are particularly vulnerable to infection, you can still join us remotely via our YouTube livestream rather than in person. Thank you for your understanding and support of those most vulnerable!

You are encouraged to click the "subscribe" button for our channel in order to get notifications when a livestream begins. Later in the day on Sunday, the video recording will also be linked on our church website and Facebook page.
