I recently returned from a series of retreats with the MacKay forum groups I chair. We did a life-changing curriculum designed by Nancy MacKay, called YOU GO FIRST™. Over two days executives and CEOs spent some quiet time reflecting and journaling, learning and growing together. I facilitated them through some exercises.
We had some real vulnerable moments. We had some really joyful times too. We laughed. There were even some wet eyes when the inspiring leadership stories were shared.
And you know which exercise really stopped people in their tracks? It was when they had to do an affirmation that goes as follows, “I am Enough. I am a Gem. I am Beautiful. I am Lovable.”
I must confess it was difficult for me, the first time I had to do it as well! Too many of us still have voices from our past in our heads; voices that may make us feel less than enough, less than a gem, less than beautiful, less than lovable.
As the retreats enfolded, the affirmations became easier. I had them say it every time they concluded their commitments. Soon the smiles came out, and pretty soon the room was filled with joy every time someone said these words.
I want to challenge you to try this affirmation for yourself. Practice it first in front of the mirror. Say it whenever you feel the shadows of doubt appearing. Because you know what, you are enough, you are a gem, you are beautiful and you are lovable. You better believe it!
