Update on Evacuees

Pastor Josh has been using his continuing education time (which he hadn’t used during covid) to volunteer to help support the Afghan Evacuees in Wisconsin, by volunteering his time working with children’s centers and other areas on site and helping coordinate church and nonprofit response to this new community in our midst.  He compiled a comprehensive list of donations and volunteer opportunities that is featured on the websites for the Greater Milwaukee Synod and Wisconsin Council of Churches.
       Please take a look at this information and respond as you are called.  First Lutheran is one of three ELCA congregations that is gathering donations for those at the State Department’s processing center at Fort McCoy and for Lutheran Social Services Resettlement.
       Pastor Josh was interviewed by Breanna Illene of the Wisconsin Council of Churches last week about the value of working and learning from people who are in times of transition, including refugees, and the video is available HERE:
       Pastor Josh has also challenged First Lutheran Members in a November’s Newsletter Article to help Lutheran Social Services co-sponsor an Afghan Family resettle in West Allis or the Milwaukee area.   This is a pressing need and there are many ways to help the effort.
