Youth Sunday School
Our youth Sunday school class will meet at 9:15 a.m.
Hanging of the Green
Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 21 at 2 p.m. We will meet in the sanctuary to decorate the church for Advent and Christmas. Many hands make light work, so if we get a bunch of help, you'll all make it home in for the Chiefs 3:25 kick off. =D

The Choir Is Back for Advent!
The choir will be singing again during Advent, so if you are interested in joining us, our first practice will be on Wednesday, November 17 from 6-7 p.m. in the sanctuary. We will be masked while we sing, but there are special singer's masks available for purchase if you are interested. Just reach out to Emily if you have any questions.

Special Board Meeting
Nov. 23 at 7:30pm

All board members are encouraged to attend a specially called meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7:30pm. Our joint committee in partnership with Trinity Presbyterian Church has some exciting, time-sensitive presentations to share.

We'll send the Zoom link to all board members via email.

Urgent need for hot beverage cups

Our collaborative warming center has an urgent need for hot beverage cups. We are going through them very fast since our shelter has been at capacity when it opens. We typically serve 25 people beverages at night and in the morning. So bulk packages are welcome!!! You can drop them off at Brentwood, and Paije Luth will transport the supplies to the shelter. Thanks!

Crosslines Toy Store Updates

Our annual Crosslines Toy Store drive is collecting items for teens in the Ozarks from Nov. 7-Dec. 12. Each teen receives 5 gifts in the following price ranges:  $25.00, $15.00, $10.00, a miscellaneous, and one knitted gift. Please do not wrap the gifts. If possible, leave the price tag on (as that is how they are separated by volunteers). You can bring your donations to the church and we will transport them to Crosslines. Here's a list of suggested gifts for teens.

Crisis Cold Weather Shelter Volunteers Needed
Cold weather season has begun which means our Crisis Cold Weather Shelter is opening up on nights that fall to or below freezing through the end of March. This year, we are part of a collaboration of churches that will be providing an inclusive shelter for couples, people with pets, and anyone in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those who are transgender and non-binary. The shelter will be at Asbury United Methodist Church (1500 S Campbell), which puts it a lot closer to downtown and a number of resources that are available to our unsheltered neighbors.

As was the case last year, our shelter depends on volunteers. There are a number of ways that you can volunteer. We need people to transport pets, people to do evening set-up and check-in, a laundry runner in the mornings, and of course overnight volunteers. You can sign up for a shift or two or more (some people sign up for the same shift each week, that way it becomes part of their routine. And then if the temps don't fall below freezing on your night, you get the night off) here

Cold Weather Shelter Amazon Wish List
Here is the link to the Asbury Shelter Amazon shopping list. Please share with with all your faith communities and friends!
The address should be updated to 1500 S. Campbell, 65807. So if they add the item to their cart DIRECTLY FROM the list, it should automatically ship to that address. If they click on the item to view it, and then add it to the cart, we are not sure it will automatically know to ship to Asbury.

People are welcome to shop for the same or similar items locally and drop off to Asbury Church Moday-Thursday 9am-2pm when the church office is open.

The AIDS Quilt Exhibition
A portion of the AIDS Quilt will be on display December 1-5 at National Avenue Christian Church (there is a flyer that has all of the information, so you can just include that if you'd like. I've attached it to this e-mail).

Justice Leadership Program

Who will join in the work of transforming the world?
As Christians we are called on to stand up for compassion and in opposition to injustice. Faith forms the foundation for action. If you feel the call, the Justice Leadership Program can show you how to take action. JLP exists to inform, equip and inspire those who have a passion for justice and a desire to get involved in the most important work in the world. We invite you to
Jubilee, a 6-month virtual program for adults who want to increase their understanding of social justice, deepen their faith, and gain the skills and confidence to take meaningful action.

Charles and Shannon have recently moved to our area and have been attending Brentwood. Charlie has started a new position as an Associate Professor for Counseling Leadership and Special Ed at Missouri State. Along with moving to a new area, new house and new job Charlie has received a diagnosis that will require 6 months of chemo. It has been determined that he would most enjoy meals at the end of the month, so we have set up this meal train for the last week of the month for six months. It is suggested that those who are participating in this meal train call Shannon if there are questions about what to fix. This suggestion is two fold in that it will help you as well as to give Shannon and Charlie a chance to get to know some more folks from our congregation. Covid protocol should be followed when deliveries are made to their home. Masks should be worn when delivering. A call to Shannon before you deliver would alert them that you are coming and then ring the door bell after you arrive and step back a safe distance. Thanks to all who are helping with this meal train.
