Kids Nervous About Needle Sticks?

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Toolkit
The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center has released a toolkit to help providers calm children, especially those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, who get nervous and anxious around needle sticks for vaccines and blood draws.

CPF filmed a new video this past week with Dr. Buddy Creech, Director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program, and CPF Medical Director Dr. Rob Lillard discussing the current state of COVID-19 vaccines, including the latest on the recently approved age 5-11 vaccine, how to handle questions about myocarditis and infertility, timing of dosage post-infection, testing, masking, and more!

Elizabeth Williams, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will be leading a presentation for CPF members on Monday, Nov. 22 at 6 PM, discussing the latest updates on COVID-19 vaccines and the current vaccine hesitancy landscape.

Katherine Spencer, PsyD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Division of Hospital Medicine, VUMC, and Heather Kreth, PsyD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Division of Hospital Medicine, VUMC, led a presentation this week on Pediatric Mental Health.

The presentation discussed common mental health diagnoses such as anxiety/mood disorder and somatic symptoms (pain, GI issues), when to seek further care, how to access care, barriers to care, and how to approach conversations with parents or patients.
