NOMV News

Our mission is to transform the status of mental wellness within the profession so all veterinary professionals can survive and thrive through education, resources, and support.

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day

Join NOMV as we recognize International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day on November 20th. This day is important to show support to survivors as they share their stories to find hope and connections through shared experiences.

One of our volunteers on the International Subcommittee, John Gibson, shares his story of moving forward on the journey after loss. He credits the love of family, skilled and caring professional help, the second family he found in SOBS (Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide) and his faith. After losing his veterinarian son Cameron, John channeled his grief into volunteering with NOMV.

“I am beginning to allow life to grow around me again. I have days when I hear myself laughing; there are days when I don’t think about Cameron every hour; I’ve found friends who have been utterly amazing and stood with me through the darkest days and darkest nights, despite my desire to hide away.”

Partner Spotlight:
The Jeffrey Bear Foundation

One of NOMV’s newest partners, the Jeffrey Bear Foundation, raises awareness and provides support and suicide prevention resources to veterinary professionals. The purpose of the foundation is to memorialize Steven "Jeffrey Bear” Godbey, Jr., DVM by continuing his legacy in the Leon County community: providing charitable support to causes consistent with his values. We appreciate our partners for joining together to make a positive impact on the veterinary community!
