The Cello Museum Weekly Newsletter

Volume II | Number 47 | 20 November 2021
Dear cello friends,

This coming week marks the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA. It is traditionally a time to gather with loved ones, often from far away. Personally, I am thankful to have you as part of the Cello Museum family. One of my favorite aspects of this virtual museum is getting to know people from all over the world who love the cello. What an amazing community!

This week, I was excited to learn more about the 18 sonatas by Bréval in Dr. Leonovich’s article. I’ve always been an advocate of using cello duets in cello lessons, and it’s wonderful to see these new 2-cello editions.

Going forward, we are making some changes to the way our birthdays series is presented. I started the Cello Birthdays not only to celebrate the lives of those associated with the cello, but also to share repertoire and performances that might not otherwise cross your path. Unfortunately, this has turned into a monumental project that seems to be taking over much of our virtual museum “building.” So, there will likely be a gap in our posts while we work on constructing a new, user-friendly "wing" to share this information. I’m excited that I might also have some help very soon in putting these together.

There are only a few weeks left until International Cello Day
December 29 our biggest holiday of the year. We’d love to hear about your winter holiday traditions and how cellos play a role in your celebrations.

Please stay well and keep in touch. I always love to hear from you.

Brenda

The cello sonatas of Jean-Baptiste Bréval by Dr. Yuriy Leonovich
Dr. Leonovich has a new article this week about his work on the cello sonatas of Jean-Baptiste Bréval, a French cellist and composer perhaps best known for his cello sonatas, particularly C Major (Op. 40, No. 1) and G Major (Op. 12, No. 5).

Be sure to read all the way through for links to these editions as well as an urtext edition of Romberg's 3 sonatas (Op. 43) for two cellos.
