December 6th Exhibition Night

The Assigned Topic is Fog - Photographing in the fog is very different from the more familiar photography in clear weather. Scenes are no longer necessarily clear and defined, and they are often deprived of contrast and color saturation.

Zoom will start at 6:30pm for socializing in breakout rooms.
Zoom info will be emailed to members in the afternoon.

Meeting will begin at 7pm

Reminder: Images need to be submitted by
Wednesday December 1st at 11:30pm

Foto Funday Monday

is

January 10th, 2022

Can't get enough of Show & Tell?

Want a casual, unstructured night of fun and talk and all things photography?

Want to ask questions and share tips on photo techniques and post processing?

Want to share your latest slideshow or get feedback?

Well, now we have a special, informal night just for that!

Foto Funday Monday

Held on the Monday nights when we don't have a formal Exhibition/Program/Exec meeting
and hosted by Rob Macleod and Doran Aisenstat.

Foto Funday Monday is an

unstructured hangout to talk

and share all things photography.

With the convenience of Zoom anyone can share images right from their desktop for feedback and discussion. We can share our Lightroom or Photoshop or ON1 (or any) applications and share techniques and ask questions. We can share our photography stories and exploits and we can share our slideshows and photo collections in a way that isn't possible on our formal meeting nights.

Come and share and join the conversation!

APAC has paid the fees for our club members to attend these session.  There are four speakers who will be presenting this season and you will find them in the attachment.  It is free to our club members if you are interested.  Just click on the link below for more information on each speaker and to register.

Inter-Club Speaker Series November 2021 to April 2022

After a successful 2020-2021 BC-Yukon Inter-Club Speaker Series, we are back at it with another Speaker Series. This year’s Speaker Series will run from November 19, 2021 through April 8, 2022, and features four accomplished exciting photographers.

The Inter-Club Speaker Series was created in October 2020 through a collaborative effort of photography clubs. It fosters connection between hundreds of photographers, and provides rich learning experiences via presentations from accomplished and recognized photographers.

The 2021-2022 BC-Yukon Inter-Club Speaker Series gratefully acknowledges the support of 32 participating camera clubs with over 1500 members, as well as the contribution of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art, Pacific Zone.

How It Works

The Inter-Club Speaker Series will take place on Zoom and is open to all members of participating clubs, free of charge. INDIVIDUAL members of participating clubs must register for every event they wish to attend, and can register for all four events right now. Once an individual has registered, they will automatically receive a Zoom meeting connection to each presentation they have registered for. A week before each presentation and the day before a presentation, a reminder email will be sent to each registrant.

A Message from

The Harbour City Photography Club

I am excited to share information about two upcoming presentations sponsored by our club here in Nanaimo, the Harbour City Photography Club.

I personally attended a presentation on Abstract Photography by Ursula Abresch when she co-presented on one of Sharon Tenebaum’s Tuesday morning “workshops”.  I was most impressed by the source of her inspiration and then her final images!!  So I was delighted to have her agree to a presentation on Tuesday, December 7th at 7:00.

Our second presenter, Brendan O Se will be “zooming in” from Ireland on Tuesday, February 1.  His the topic, Smartphone Photography, is most timely.  I’m not sure what the buzz is in your club - but some of our most accomplished photographers are upscaling their smartphones in lieu of that new camera.  I understand that this trend is gaining traction.  So your members may be most interested in Brendon's presentation.

We have made both these presentations available to other clubs and their members through Eventbrite.

Here are the links to sign up for the presentations:

A Message about Photomotion from

The Pacific Digital Photography Club

The Pacific Digital Photography Club (“PDPC”) is pleased to announce that Photomotion 2021 is live and ready for your viewing enjoyment.  Simply go to:  www.pdpc.ca/photomotion-2021 to access this year’s presentation. This year’s show is 1 hour and 22 minutes in duration.  While you have the ability to watch it in shorter segments, to get the full Photomotion experience and for your complete enjoyment we recommend watching it in one sitting if at all possible.

Not being able to present Photomotion in the Inlet Theatre represents a financial strain on our club.  If you’ve enjoyed Photomotion and are in a position to help us we ask that you consider making a small donation to PDPC.  You will find a “Donate” button at the bottom of the Photomotion webpage. Clicking on it will present you with 4 donation options, $5, $10, $15 and Free Form which will allow you to donate any amount.  As a point of reference, when we present Photomotion in the Inlet Theatre ticket prices are $18 each.

We will be making Photomotion 2021 available, for your viewing pleasure, until the end of February 2022 so feel free to watch it multiple times.

Please share this email and/or the above link with all your club members and encourage them to further share it with family, friends and anyone you think would be interested.

Thank you and we hope you enjoy Photomotion 2021.

Announcing 30 over 50: In Context (2022)

Call For Entries Submission Deadline is December 12, 2021

We are interested in photo-based artists that are fifty years old and older for this online exhibition. Too often youth is rewarded and age is neglected. Our aim is to celebrate those who have been practicing their photo-based art or photography for a long time and those who have only recently discovered their artistic talent.

Juror:
Gordon Stettinius

In 2010, Gordon Stettinius, an artist and educator, founded an independent publishing company, Candela Books, which has published monographs from Gita Lenz, Chris McCaw, Willie Anne Wright, Paul Thulin and others. Candela’s most recent release is Dr. Falke’s ORACULUM by Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick.
Soon after, Stettinius founded Candela Gallery in 2011, with the mission being to bring notable photographers to Richmond, Virginia, in an effort to elevate the discourse around contemporary photography. The gallery produces 7-8 feature exhibitions a year; one or two book-related exhibitions each year; and one unbridled, free-for-all, group exhibition each summer.
Candela Gallery has a community-minded philosophy, often presenting political, environmental, and/or subversive work, but their foundation is built upon an emphasis on the photographic object and its craft.

Online Exhibition Feature Dates: March 1 - May 31, 2022

Large Scale Outdoor Projections: May 12, 2022, just after sundown

Recognition:
Juror’s Award: One Artist will be the featured speaker for the Zoom exhibition conversation.
Honorable Mentions: Five artists will be invited to give talks about their work for the Zoom exhibition conversation
Six artists will be selected for 30-minute reviews (via Zoom) with the juror, Gordon Stettinius

Submission Information:
Fee: $20.00 for Members and $25.00 for non-members
All submissions will be handled through CaFE’ (
