Mid-November P.S. Newsletter

Hello again (and welcome if you are new),

We try to not send out more than one email a month to keep from cluttering your inbox. But we have a few things we wanted to alert or remind you of this month. It's exciting that so much is going on!

This has been a heartbreaking week, as we see yet more stark examples of the accelerating climate crisis hitting home here in BC. We know we need all levels of governments to align its actions with climate solutions, and we have to push to make that happen.

what is gas flaring?

BC Royalty Review - Please Participate!

One example of misalignment is the huge amount of subsidies given to the oil and gas sector in BC. These subsidies highly incentivize fracked gas, which is polluting our climate, water, and lands. Royalty credits are BC’s biggest fossil fuel subsidy and need to be eliminated.

Please take 5 minutes to participate in the BC government’s review of its antiquated royalty credit system, open until Dec. 10. Let’s show them there is no doubt what the people of BC want - policies aligned with what’s expected in this climate emergency.

Here is the link to submit comments. Don’t worry about some of the technical questions, which you can skip, but do be sure to:

  • Ask that these royalty credits be removed as soon as possible with no grandfathering.
  • Ask that the government put the environment first
  • Ask the government to stop incentivizing fracked gas with these out of date credits.
Read more here, or if it's easier for you, use one of these letter-writing tools from Stand.earth, the Wilderness Committee and Dogwood BC.. Please spread the word!
