End of Church Year

Let Us Pray (from The Treasury of Daily Prayer)

All who hate me whisper together about me; they imagine the worst for me. -- (Psalm 41:7)

Lord Jesus, Alpha and Omega, in Your suffering and death You were making all things new, and from that tree You brought Your work of redemption to an end by declaring, "It is finished."  Be our beginning and our end, that or weeping now at Your table here below may prepare us to feast at Your heavenly banquet, where You will wipe every tear from our eyes and death will be no more; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Village News

What Lutherans Believe

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about our Christian confession within the Lutheran tradition or just reviewing the basics of belief, plan to join Pastor Biermann Sunday evenings in December and January.  We will use Luther’s Small Catechism as a springboard into thinking about and discussing the core doctrines of our faith.  While this class serves as preparation for becoming a member at Village, it will also be a great time of fellowship and learning for lifelong members.  The class will meet at church starting Sunday, December 5th at 6:30 p.m.  Come and bring a friend or two.

Altar Guild Volunteers Needed

Thank you! to all who have volunteered to help with the Altar Guild.  There is still need for one more volunteer for Holy Communion setup and cleanup.  One to two people can set the altar on Saturdays or early Sunday mornings, and another person or couple is needed to clean up after Sunday’s late services.  The volunteer schedule rotates monthly, and training is available.  Volunteers are also needed for other services (Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, etc.) throughout the church year.

If you are interested in serving on the Altar Guild, please contact Marilyn Daughhetee (marilyn5162@att.net) or the church office (314-993-1834).

Angel Christmas Tree

Village is partnering up with Humanitri this year to bless over 40 people with a gift under their tree.  If you would like to participate and purchase a gift, please take a name from the tree found in the lounge.  Please follow the Instructions that are posted next to the tree.  If you have any questions, please contact Mireya Johnson.

Help Make the Sanctuary Bloom

Village will be adorned with poinsettias in December leading up to Christmas.  All are welcome to dedicate poinsettias in memory or honor of a loved one.  Cost is $15 per poinsettia plant.  The signup sheet is in the lounge through Wednesday, December 8.

Hanging of the Greens

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, December 4 from 9-11:30 to join in decorating the church for the Advent/Christmas season.  Enjoy chatting over coffee and donuts while trimming wreaths, hanging garlands or setting up the outdoor creche.  Please sign up in the Lounge or contact the office.  All volunteers are greatly appreciated!

Katie Luther League

We do not officially meet in December but please remember to bring in your items for our December service project.  For more information or to sign up, please see Marilyn Daughhetee or Karen Bogad. Thank you

Stewardship Thought

Luke 19:31 – “If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this:  ‘The Lord has need of it.’ ”  Consider the faithfulness of that man who owned the donkey and colt. All he needed to hear was,  “The Lord has need of it.”  Then he gave willingly.  The Lord has given each of us various callings in life – in our homes, in the Church, and in the communities in which we live.  In each calling we have good work to do which comes from the Lord’s hand.  The Lord has need of us in each calling.  How is He calling you to generous giving in each of your vocations?

Witness & Outreach Thought

Luke 19:28-40:  “Blessed is the King that comes in the name of the Lord!”  The Pharisees tried to silence those shouts of great joy. Jesus responds to the Pharisees, saying, “If these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”  May we never let the rebukes of this world lead us into silence, but rather may the Holy Spirit equip us and give us the opportunity to cry out with the Good News that Jesus Christ comes to save us.
